Wow! This is a new high for the 3186.

DavidSW had an M serial 3186 on his site around spring/summer 2017 for 15k. Now he has a newly listed Z serial 3186 for 19k.....lol. Curious as to who would buy this?

The guy who is maybe not as knowledgeable on such things as people here and has more money than sense might easily buy David's at $19k if he came across it after following the Ebay sale at $28k. He could probably think he was after finding a great deal.

My guess is it actually sells for a nice chunk of change. There are people out there who are willing to pay the premium for the 3186

There is a big difference between some guy on ebay asking for 28k.....and a trusted seller asking for 19k.

The big difference being 'the some guy on eBay' watch is NOS whilst the trusted sellers is used & just 'excellent condition'.
Both watches are stick dials which makes them highly sought after and rare, but in the NOS case it takes a rare watch into a whole new level of super rareness!
It's definately a case of 'find another in this condition' hence the premium over the trusted sellers watch.
Given the amount of love shown to 5 digit watches generally on this forum, I think to a serious collector a NOS fully stickered stick dial Coke GMT is about as close to the 'Holy Grail' as it gets.
If you've got the money $28k sounds like a bargain for such a watch.

I don't think these are coming down anytime soon and could actually see them going up with the current status/scarcity of SS models. Too many people out there willing to pay the premiums for these desirable models

I wasn’t talking watch to watch comparison so to speak. I was talking seller to seller. David has a flawless rep. And it crazy to me to see someone like him to sell it at that price. I mean he was selling basically the same watch for 4k cheaper less than 1yr ago. I know nothing about that ebay seller.

Appreciate the comment re trusted seller - no issue with that.
I was simply pointing out they are 2 very different condition watches hence the difference in price.
I'm sure if the trusted sellers watch was NOS it would be a lot higher than 19k.
Just out of interest, was the watch you refer to being sold previously a stick dial?
That could explain the 4k increase from the previous sale.

And yes you do raise a valid point about the NOS. And sorry I don’t remember whether or not David’s previous 3186 was a stick dial. Personally I think the whole stick dial thing is internet hype. But I get it. Fewer of them out there.

Yes saw that too - my brother has one that still has stickers..

I'm trying to verify the serial number - but I'm pretty sure that's what he has..

Hey Chadri. That seller you posted and the seller linked in post #2 are the same. Same watch too. Both are based out of Nashville. And both have the same pics. His ebay price is higher.

Why in sam hell would anyone pay a premium for a GMT with this particular caliber at all? The 3186 can be found in plenty 16570 Exp IIs at prices nowhere near what the GMTs are bringing...Other than it not being a very common movement used in the 16710 what else about it would command such a premium over a 16710 with the caliber 3185? I’m interested to learn more about the elusive 3186

I don't think in this case it's the caliber of the movement that's the draw, it's the rarity of the stick dial.

Me as well. $ 5750 with a 10 % discount thrown in at my old AD. Didn't sing to me and I passed. Oh well.

I posted last night bout a 3186 I saw going for 19k on a website (can't remember it now) That is a ton of money for a stainless GMT 2.

I too would not pay 3-5k extra for that movement. For me the stick dial of the GMT Master II is also a minor detail, unlike the flat 4 bezel of the 16610LV which really makes the watch stand out from the normal LV.

The last series of the 16710 with a different calibre than all the other 16710's and perhaps a different (stick) dial.
It's a rare watch. I totally get it
