What about the watches no one wants???

So I'm planning on picking up my second Rolex to pair with my 116040. Contemplating the 116234 36mm Datejust. I've seen no shortage of these in display cases lately. For those of you with gobs of experience, what would be a good starting point in terms of negotiating price at an AD. Thanks in advance for your input.

I would say 15-20% at least.

Right now DavidSW has a few brand new right on his sight and they are 15% off. You might be able get a little more off if you mention the forum here. Also add an additional 6% off for no tax if you went the trusted seller route.

I am not that familiar with Nova ADs, but in Richmond you are not gonna get 20% off. I would think the same due to tons of people and lots of people with money. I could be wrong though.

A Rolex is a Rolex. Trends come and go so buy what you like and forget what everybody else is pushing. Most of the market is moved to buy what they can’t immediately purchase so to many it makes it better in their mind. It’s a great time to buy a DJ as you can target a 15% discount. The DJ is timeless.

The 116900 Air King is a polarizing watch. You either love it or hate it.

You could probably get a discount on that one also if it has been hanging around the shop for a while.

DavidSW had AK for about 10% off, no tax. I asked an AD their best price, 10% off but taxable.

The AD also fed me a massive line of BS about gray market watches. I know it his livelihood, but lieing to me does not establish a trust based relationship.

If you purchase the watch in the USA, then you won’t be paying any taxes. I would believe it’s the same, if he were to ship it to you. You may have to pay customs dues.

Do the Air King instead. You can always get a DJ. AK is contemporary, has unique color mix, and is 40mm.

don't buy something that you don't really want just bcos you can get a discount or so as a consolation. If everyone stopped buying sports models altogether there wouldn't be this artificial shortage.

Likewise if everybody started buying the unwanted models you bet Rolex would cut down on supply for those as well
