It's a bulletproof watch and the neat thing about it is that the chrono pushers can be operated under water, all the way to the 300 meters mark.

That's a hell of a beauty. That's one of the few watches that is a TRUE sports watch where you can use the chrono even submerged underwater.

I've had two of those chronos, the blue dial and the black dial. I sold both as I went back to my dream chrono watch, Chrono Avenger (Breitling).

I've owned that watch for over 6 years and can easily say it will NEVER leave my stable. Others have come & gone, but that Omega is a keeper. Wore it every day for over 5 years and it went through hell...never missed a beat!

Not sure if you're opposed to 'second hand' ownership or if even that is out of the budget...but if you haven't looked into it, you might want to see if you can pick one up 'lightly used' as I know you can save a bundle going that route.

Here's a shot of mine w/ my now sold Sub and Avenger Skyland Blacksteel (which is on the selling block...see...everything is going BUT the Omega).

I have one. Could not be more pleased with it. It has gravitas. Looks expensive. Feels expensive. Very good time keeper. Gotta be careful with the bezel, but a great watch.

I do like that watch.. I have the Planet Ocean Chrono with the Orange bezel, LOVE IT but its a very heavy watch.. whats the weight on that one like???

My SMP Chrono is now over a year old. I wear it to work 5 days a week and it still looks and works great. I'd wear my Rolex Day Date to work but I would bang it up in no time.

I now the feeling, I fell in love with it right away. I bought mine for more than 10 years ago. Before I bought it, I cut one Seamaster out from a catalogue and tried it on my wrist. It was a lot of money at the time for me (still is), Was afraid to use it in the beginning, but now I use it pretty much every day, my Speedmaster also gets a little attention, I bought the Speedmaster about one year ago, but prefer the Seamasters presence and the way its just perfectly balanced on my wrist.
Cut down on all other things for a while and I´m sure you will be able to get one, you will not regret it!
