Omega Basel Release

I'm calling the boutique today to put down a deposit.

Seriously though. What is this laser stuff they have been putting on Instagram? Some kind laser engraved wave dial?

I'm making an educated guess here. You need to remember Omega is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Seamaster Pro Diver 300M a.k.a the Pierce Brosnan James Bond watch (and the 70th anniversary of the birth of the Seamaster) and that's the laser engraving on the wavy ceramic dial of the new revamped Seamaster Pro Diver 300M +LM bezel .Just keeping my fingers crossed, Omega will replace the skeletonized hands with the Roman Sword hands

The latest instagram pretty much gives it away regarding the watch. It's going to be a laser engraved ceramic dial....and I thought for a moment that maybe the waves were vertical with the date window but it's gotta be a date window @ 6 o'clock akin to the new Aqua Terras.....personally not impressed by this as I need my date windows at 3 o clock whenever possible.

I'm with Megan on this. Return of the horizontal wave pattern on the dial of revamped SMP.

Many of us who have this watch believe firmly that there is nothing wrong with the bracelet (unless you're referring to the lack of a microadjustable clasp). It's a pattern unique to this watch, and that's totally cool.

I like the new Speedy but I'm not sure the movement justifies that price...

What is up with the helium escape knob on the new Seamaster models? Totally kills it for me. I love the new dial and bezel but I just can’t rock that extra crown.

Yawn. Non-flush HEV and department store bracelet. Pass. The waves are cool though!

A more uninspired Basel collection I have never seen, from any major brand. The SM in particular is dreck: an HEV crown that looks like a cap on a tube of toothpaste; new sword-shaped hands that are still skeletonized; 6:00 date window; even the waves aren't as cool as they used to be. What a disappointment.

I like the 1948 Seamaster LEs:

The central seconds one with the blue strap most of all:

Those are fantastic.

Could have done without some of that text though.

The latest Seamaster 1948 has the DNA of the London Olympic Games of 1948 & 2012 ( L.E /1948 )

That was my same impression which I think is 39mm vs 38 on the new release. Both are limited to 1948.

I like the 1948 Seamasters.....but a couple things I don't "love" and will keep me from buying:

1) Size increase to 38mm....as well as the thickening of the case (no doubt partly due to having a see through caseback).

2) The labeling of coaxial on the dial....I understand why though but wished they just kept things simple.

3) The price......I think I'd prefer to pay far less for an excellent vintage example than sporting these to be quite honest.

Just my thoughts on these in particular.....don't get me started on the waves/new SM300....not a fan @ all. Only hopes for me is the new ck2998 but I'm somewhat on the fence a tad after looking at it closer.

Pretty sure the price is negotiable.
I have to see this in the flesh though, want to buy a OP34 green but this might change the plan.

Not keen on the offerings this year! The new sm300 is interesting, I like the new movement and the adjustable clasp, I’m open to the new date position but otherwise I prefer my 2014 smpc

This one is interesting. But no word about an adjustable clasp on their website. Anyway I still prefer the original 2531.80.

The 1948 is probably my favourite Basel offering so far.

The new upgraded facelifted 2018 SMP 300M Diver MC has
✓ Better bracelet quality with micro adjustable clasp
✓ Date dial at 6
✓ Superluminova indices on the bezel diving scale
✓ 3D waves on dial are pretty awesome like the original
✓ The skeleton hour and minute hands are much better proportioned
✓Master Chronometer status. The watch is actually tested to 425 m
