Icon5 Second hand dealers in Europe

I'm just getting into Patek, and am starting to look at the second hand dealers for an entry piece. I know about DavidSW and HQMilton in the US, but who are the dealers in Europe you would recommend?

I hope I am not conflicting any rules, but I can recommend Ponti in Geneva. In Europe but not an EU country though.

What do you mean? Are prices dramatically different?

Second hand dealer in Cuneo Italy on Via Roma. These were in the window in October 2017.

Also, trying seeing what they bid if you want to sell them something

Cresus in France, but they’re expensive.

I'm noticing a theme - dealers being 'expensive.' What % do you think can be negotiated down from listed prices?

Chrono24
Lots of choice, look at their history.

Well you can't get VAT back on a 2nd hand piece and with the dollar on the decline it's not worth it. The high demand pieces are more expensive over there anyways.

Like Tyler said, it looks like you're US based, stick to David SW and Takuya. I've worked with both and they're great

With the weaker USD, it may make more sense to sell your preowned watches in Europe and get more of your USD back from the weaker currency exchange rate.

That's the killer, I don't mind high asks if bids are fair, so I'd really avoid using them if you can. But their service is efficient and hassle free so you pay for the convenience.

Was definitely thinking of doing this.

Nope, and this isn’t just for watches. It applies to all secondhand goods, VAT was already paid, they don’t charge it again. Some people mistakenly think they’re getting a hot ticket, lightly used 5711 or DaytonaC in EU and going to get 15% back at the airport. Nope.

Also, when you buy new goods and want to use them before departing back to your home country?.....this can also be an issue. All items being claimed for VAT refund need to be ‘unused’ when you make your VAT claim. Certain employees will thoroughly comb over what you claim, and if it’s not in ‘unused’ condition, they won’t let you claim it.

Many larger B&M preowned watch stores have an online store on C24. Also there are several reputable stores in Mayfair, London.
