Would you trade down?

Dilemma time.

I have the 2015 speedmaster 57 with the broad arrow hands.

Great watch. Keeps great time.

The dilemma is that I've always wanted the moonwatch and it's been bothering me.

Ideally I would keep both, but I think I only want only one chrono. If I'm going to have one chrono, I feel that it needs to be the speedy pro.

We all know what makes the speedy pro so great. It's an icon and I think it's more versatile than the 57 and it sits a bit better since the 57 is pretty thick.

The 57 is objectively the better watch though. Column wheel chrono, co-axial, date, 100m water resistance.

The moonwatch has been eating away at the back of my mind for the last 2 years.

Not sure what to do.

I would but that’s me. Try to get a deal on the pro though, as you may take a bit of a bath on the 57.

Have you thought about any of the others such as speedy Tuesday, trilogy LE, Apollo 17 etc.

Yeah, at this point I have enjoyed the 57 for more than 2 years, so while the idea of losing on the 57 isn't great, I can take it.

David got the 57 for me, so I would probably reach out to him and see what can be worked out.

Probably wont be able to do anything until next week. Have some serious thinking to do.

Yeah, I would do it. I have the standard Pro and so far have resisted buying any of the 9000-series Speedies. I absolutely love almost all of them, and I really want one (especially a DSOTM), but the models with the cal. 1861 are just so perfect and classic, and they wear so well.

I say go for it!

I know you're an omega guy so that carries a lot of weight!

I think a speedy pro is in my future...

I do think the 1861/861/321 based Speedmasters just hits everything better than the coaxial Speedies....especially comfort...which is key for me these days. I would do that trade personally...and if it's been gnawing at you for that long....you're just fighting your desire no matter how logical you're trying to be (thinking of the pros on the 57 etc).

I like the 57 a lot.

But not in comparison to a classic speedy. And the seedy might be cheaper, but it’s most certainly not a trade down.

I’d do it for sure.

Speedy Pro on a strap makes the watch almost unnoticeable on the wrist. It is the only way I wear my Speedy, fantastic watch.

The 57 has more features, but I'm not sure I'd call it objectively better. It has some big downsides, too, like the thickness As you've noticed yourself, the Pro is more attractive and comfortable, and is an icon– a trade would be the right call.

Alternatively, maybe the new Apollo 8 model is the best of both worlds.

I have the moonwatch and I would do it. But that’s my personal opinion even though I stopped buying omegas. I’m into Rolex. My moonwatch (and seamaster 300M) are sleeping since a very long time with no wrist time whatsoever. If you need a chrono, IMHO, go for a Daytona except if cost is an issue. I’m wearing one right now . The 116530 white dial.

I don't see it as a trade down but a trade across a brand. Get the best deal possible and go for it. When I trade watches I don't mind getting rid of a watch and usually I don't miss it. If I do I, think about what I got to replace it.

The original Speedy is so versatile it is hard to go wrong. Just avoid the overly thick autos IMHO.

My AD was an Omega dealer at one point a few years back so I spent a lot of time trying on Speedmasters. When they were shutting down their Omega section and giving up their AD status I had my shot at about anything in the case at a great discount. For me it came down to the bullhead and the FOIS. The only box the FOIS doesn’t check is the Hesalite crystal. It is sapphire but I really like the durability and scratch resistance. Great to wear in any strap and I do not own a bracelet for it. They can be had for under $4000 pretty easily LNIB.

I really like the 57 but there is something about a. Old school Speedy.

I think the automatic Speedy is a nice watch but over time I think so many auto come and ago that there is really no continuity in the model. I have a Speedy Pro and I think its a good trade and will likely shift to a trade up in the long run. Historically automatic Speedmasters will depreciate significantly over time vs. the Moonwatch... I mean unless an Astronaut wears the new Speedmaster on Mars I don't see that demand going away anytime soon. If I was you I would trade/sell the 57 for the Speedy Pro and don't look back, its such a privilege winding it up when you wear it not to mention it takes up no space in your winder.

Coming to back this. It didn't take long. I moved to the Speedy Pro and I couldn't be happier.

If I only had to have one chrono, this would be it.

Someone above mentioned the daytona, but I've never liked the modern versions. Especially with those polished bezels. The current ceramic version is a huge improvement and if I had to have other chrono, that would definitely be it.

Obvious quality aside, I prefer the Speedy because I think it has always been a stronger design. It still looks like the watch it came from. The current Daytona looks nothing like the old ones.

Plus the Speedy looks amazing on every strap you could possible throw on it.

Thanks Seth.

Also lucked out because the same straps I was using with the 57 work with the pro.

Now I get to use natos though. 57 was way too thick.
