Tudor 79220 red or blue. Should I go for it??

IMG_3180.JPG

Hello fellow TRF members
I was at my AD yesterday and he had these two Tudor watches sitting in his case. I never looked at Tudor but the colors grabbed my attention then when I did some research I found how sought after they are

I like both watches equally, which one is more sought after and what kinda discount (if any) should I look for?
Thank you for input!

I love the red. It's got that vintage warmth going. The blue is colder and has a modern vibe to it. Both great.

Thank you so much! From my brief research, this was a relatively short run watch. Is that why they are sought after and some consider them collectible ?

Be the red all the way for me, if you get the chance try both on, I yearned for the red BB for years, went to the AD and was very underwhelmed. Was on the leather and felt quite cheap

I think eventually all the etas will be collectibles somewhat..but the real short run is the black one and that's where the biggest growth in value will be. In terms of watch though they're all winners.

you come across/are offered some great pieces.. I have the red on leather, am seriously considering adding the blue on bracelet....as the rolex models i'd like to add are as good as a dream.

I’d probably go for the red. It’s the watch that put Tudor back on the map in my opinion

Both cool watches, can’t go wrong. Don’t buy because they are rare though. Red was produced for 5+ years. Blue a little over a year I think. Buy if you like the watch and deal, good luck.

You can't go wrong with either one. Get your color preference.

I picked up the Red 79220R this week and I love it!

I had the same choice last week and went with the blue. That color blue is just so nice and deep and looks great with everything. The red is more striking but in the long run I think you will be happier with the blue.

Better play is to hold off and get the new Tudor Pepsi GMT when it comes out. Black ETA is assumed to become some sort of collectable, the others are more questionable. If Tudor in-house movements get a solid rep/history going the ETAs will have much less appeal in the long run, other than for claimed cheaper servicing costs.

It was the Black Bay Black Bezel ETA version (see attached pic) that had the limited production run (6 mos) and is the most sought after of the 3 ETA versions. While the Blue and Red ETA movement haven't been produced in a couple years, they are not rare but a great watch. I have the Red Eta an on leather strap. You'll be happy with either.

Thanks folks! I will hit the threads to enlighten myself more about Tudor
Thanks

This is an BBN with the in house movement, not the eta. But yes, the black eta had a short run.

OP, I like them all. The red was the last on I got and the blue I have had some fun with. I would probably go with the red if you have a Sub. If he does have a black eta bu that one no matter what.

I would want 15-20 off of the red or blue. They will want to move those. That is dead inventory for them.

There are quite a few differences between the original version and current. Logo, curved vs. straight dial text, movement, case height, bracelet rivets. I'm sure there are more. Good luck!

Look for rose instead of shield and smiling self winding text. Try them both in blue/red form. The in house had a longer power reserve and wears thicker. I wouldn’t care eta/in-house if they both felt good on your wrist imho. If black that’s a diff ball game.

Both are nice. If I have to pick, I have always liked the red with the gilt dial.
