Well, those who know me know I'm a competitive archer (although less competitive than I used to be). If I was training the way I should be, I wouldn't have time for anything but that and work.........next summer I'll get back in the game, I think.
I used to do a fair bit of woodworking, and I have a half-finished hutch in the basement to prove it. I like opals, and collect/sell them a bit. And of course there's this watch thing. Aside from forums like this, I am in the process of doing the TZ Watch School part 1. I have just about finished putting the ETA 2801-2 back together, and then will add a dial, hands, case, and strap. I may ask for some opinions with dial/hands combinations in the future....... I also like to cook on occasion, but usually that's only on weekends. |

Other than this watch thing I really enjoy hanging out with my wife and son, playing golf (sometimes) and stupid comedy movies.

Tyler,
How long have you been playing guitar? Electric or acoustic? Any particular genre you play? (Or try to play? ) I go through bouts of playing where I'll play every day for a couple of months, and try to recover all the stuff I've learned and forgotten. ;-) I've been playing about 35 years, and have the skill of someone who's been playing about 5 years. :-( Quote:

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply Manatee. I've been busy. Anyway, I've been playing for about 3 to 4 months. I play the electric and I like to play rock and metal mainly.(a.k.a. the easy stuff)

Hi John, I do mostly club riding now -- rides of 35 to 65 miles. Maybe one century per year. I've slowed down over the last ten years, which is really frustrating. I used to ride a few evenings a week, but now weekday rides are rare. I've become a fat corporate drone.
I tried racing crits in the early '80s, but wasn't much good at it. I was a perennial Cat 4. I was afraid to risk serious injury, so I wasn't aggressive enough. Quote:

Hey Peter, that's pretty cool stuff. Cat 4 racing is scarey.
I hear ya on the weekday ride issue. I haven't had one since my daughter was born, and it's still hard to justify a 100km ride once a week, let alone twice a week. LOL I made it up to Cat 1 one season, but was competitive Cat 2 the balance of my career. I just cleaned up and polished my regular road bike and put some new cork on it for a club ride tomorrow. Can't wait. What do you ride? |

Here's my current ride, a custom Serotta Ti... Built in 2001. Record 10-speed with new compact crank, Mavic Ksyrium SSL wheels, Deda one-piece bars/stem. I even put the US$100 Campy bottle cages on it.
I also have my old Eddy Merckx Century, TSX frame. I originally built it up with Chorus parts in '92, but it's all Record now. It's relatively heavy, but a great ride. It's been a loyal steed over many great and memorable rides. I met my wife on that bike. I have to laugh now when I watch a Cat 4/5 race. More balls than brains. On the other hand, the strategy and control demonstrated by the 1/2s is beautiful to see. What do you ride these days? Quote:

That Serotta is one schweeet ride!!
Compared to your state-of-the-art ride, I'm in the middle-ages. My current ride is a 12-year old custom made Pinarello Montello with TSX tubing, built up with full Campagnolo Record Ergo (8 speed) topped off with Campy Delta brakes... the last iteration that actually worked well . I initially bought the bike in Chromo Nero (translucent black paint over a fully chromed frame) but after one season I found the paint too soft and sent it back to Italy where they did it up in team red with chromed chain stays and fork blades, with a painted fork crown. My other is a 22 year old Pinarello Super Record (columbs SL) built up in full Campy Super Record (in team red). It still provides a really nice, lively ride. But the custom frame fits like a glove and it passes the hands-off at 80km/hr twisty descent test, so I'm not looking for anything to replace it. Besides, it's the bike I really came into my own on, and administered a LOT of pain while riding it (and experienced an equal amount of pain too!). BTW, agreed on the Cat 4/5 tactics. Riding 1-2 was pretty cool cuz we actually used team tactics and had things like 'protected rider status'. I was fortunate to be able to race against Iron Curtin riders from the USSR and East Germany, as well as some visiting pros like Francesco Moser, Sean Kelly, Stephen Roche, the pro 7-11 guys, Beppe Saronni and other amateurs like Frankie Andreu, Andy Hampsten and a very young Lance Armstrong.
