Hello, i'm currently in a little bit of a pickle and would appreciate your thoughts on my next purchase.

I currently own a Rolex Hulk and a breitling navitimer (which I will sell following this next purchase)

My next purchase will be either a Rolex Daytona 116250 (2012) with no box/papers but with a RSC card in 2017 Nov for $13500 US or a 14060 (2000 swiss only dial with no box and papers for 6000US.

Can I get your thoughts on which watch I should go for and why :) I love both watches.

Also, would the watches having no B/P cause you to pause when purchasing these watches. I know they are 100% authetntic as they are from reputable sellers I know personally.

I think that you are paying a premium for the Daytona but that is the current market. I would broaden the search and look at other brands and models before I spent 14K. It maybe that the Daytona is it for you, if so, go for it.

I agree with this. There are a lot of references and brands you can tap into for $14k-$15k. That being said, the 116520 is a great reference but a complete scratch magnet. The bezel scratches at the slightest touch.

Maybe I’m just living in the past when you could buy a mint full set Daytona for $10,000... so I don’t think I could bring myself to pay that much even though it’s the going market rate. Since you already have a sub I might also shy away from the 14060. If it were me and I wanted a Daytona I’d wait out my time on a list for a 116500 and try to pick one up for MSRP.

X2. I have a “been there, done that”with that Daytona and I remember what I paid for it. My value system could no way pay the current market value for that watch. I would get on the list for a new one at msrp.

For me, the Sub, because, a) I don’t like Daytonas, and b) I like Subs.

Oh, also, c) the Sub is less than half the money.

X3: if you must have a Daytona, then consider getting a new one from an AD, and make it YOURS for life. Other options, have you considered the Sub-C and a Speedmaster? Again, brand new and still cheaper than the pre-owned Daytona.

I would go with the sub because of its iconic history and utilitarian use. I had an old Daytona and I really just couldn't get used to it. I normally like chronographs but the legibility was horrible. Tried a friends new ceramic and something just seemed off with proportions that felt somewhat feminine, and I still had some legibility issues if I was trying to read it on the go. I ended up buying for a lot less money mind you, a JLC deep sea chronograph.
At first I did not like that they do not come on steel, but if you look around you can get a 21 mm steel bracelet for these and it looks pretty BA.

You are comparing two watches that are in two totally different price brackets. If you are gonna spend 13k go for the Daytona now before they become 18k

2 line Sub is a fantastic reference, especially on a leather strap. That's my vote, with certainty.

I'd actually take a look for a 2 line 14060m if I were you. if comparing mint examples, you can get them cheaper than a 14060 and come with the better movement. Not to mention, they're more likely to be completely OEM and unpolished if that matters to you. IMO, those are 100% (along with the 16600 if you want a date) the best bang for your buck non-current models you can pickup right now. A nice blend of vintage/modern charm.

The Daytona is underpriced compared to market value, especially considering recent service.

The Sub is a bit overvalued. I guess the "Swiss" dial adds to that, but if you aren't into it as a collector, then it's too much $$$ for a 14060.

Buy the Daytona.

Since you already have a sub, the Daytona seems like the one, although I think it's too expensive, it is (as mentioned) a scratch magnet and for me, personally, I can't see the hands on those guys, so I always have to ask someone what time it is.

You need to buy the one that speaks to you. No one cares what we think.
