Icon9 AD in DC Laying Off Employees

I was at my AD today and the lady I usually buy my watches from was gone. I asked where she was and I discovered she was let go. These are tough times, indeed. Sounds like this particular AD got rid of part-time employees, but still keeps all of its full time staff.

I guess they base it in sales too...if that lady you know is a very good sales person they would have kept her...i have some of my favorite sales people too that lost their job...

Guys and Gals... In recent days, I am starting to think this whole financial thing is bigger than I gave it credit. I thought it might of just been hoopla especially with the election. I am realizing now (I am always the last to "get it"...) this situation is bad - way worse than anybody is really saying.

Sadly, she knew quite a bit about the product she was selling. She wasn't pushy, which is precisely why I liked her and her employer probably didn't

Yes, you are very correct... You have not seen anything yet. This is going to get real bad, unfortunately...

Well, I've been told that a review will be conducted by March 09 to ascertain how big the staff cut will be within the company. Our orders-in-hand are 30% below budget this quarter on average so 10%-15% head cut is what people are saying.

Friends overseas told me that companies negotiated pay cuts to hold off staff cuts and then after 2 months started sacking people and pay severance on the reduced salaries.

Sorry to say I agree 100% and have been saying it for 6 months now. I am in the P&L business, we see trends a little earlier. It is going to be a long bumpy road and it won't ever be quite the same.

One of the reasons my AD stopped selling Rolex was he did'nt want it to effect the rest of his buisness or his staff as he could not afford to keep buying what he was'nt selling so dropped Rolex and saved thousand and can't sell enough of Omegas and without having to buy what he can't sell

I was in one of the chain store AD's in early November, and they had already cut the hours of all their employees so they didn't have to lay-off anybody. Another AD has done the same (cut hours back to the minimum), and let go of all part-time help. Both AD's are in NC. And I think this will be a similar situation throughout the country in the coming weeks/months.

The company I work for is definitely being affected, and the effects are being felt even moreso outside the US borders. As bad as the US has it, I'm led to believe the UK & EU are feeling it the same, and much worse in certain parts of both.

Nothing sucks worse than having to tell somebody their contract is over, or their job is being eliminated, especially right before Christmas.
