strange hate love feeling with a explorer

I have a strange hate or love relationship with the Rolex explorer(i LOVE the explorer 2) But the explorer is somewhat boring for my taste but somehow it is such a cool watch... Does anyone feel this the same? It is like it is not my taste and on the other side i am over the moon with that watch ...

I did too. Fought it for years. In the back of my mind I knew someday I would have one. Finally I got one. i have owned many watches, all the hard to get Rolex watches, some twice. This by far is my favorite watch. No non sense. Tough, excellent bracelet and easy to read.

To me, the Explorer is a very intriguing timepiece with it's simple elegance and outstanding quality. It really is an ideal minimalist and superbly executed Rolex.

hahah super cool! so you felt the same. What i really like about Rolex explorer watches is that you really can ''see'' or feel why they are named ''explorer'' you understand what i mean? They have that typically exploring look, how they created this is like a wonder cause there are perhaps 100.000 watch brands that call their watches different names and functions but Rolex is the only brand that is 'strong' enough to show with a relatively simple design, i mean the explorer is simple exactly what they wanna show. thanx for your reply !!!!!

My current daily watch is the Explorer. Let me tell you... I never understood it, I just didn't. However, for some reason I went to the AD and tried the 39mm Explorer on. Oh, it was over. I never looked back since.

If it were my one and only I would get bored with it quickly. But as part of a collection I think it's a kinda cool piece.

Is it the short hands on the 2010 version putting you off?

Pure love from me. Never find it boring. Quintessential sports Rolex, distilled to its essence, nothing can be added or subtracted ...

The new one with lumed numerals and longer hands is simply a killer.
Though it's called a 39mm the dial is slightly bigger than my Blnr.
I tried one on recently at an AD and was amazed as I had never seriously wanted one.
They're $8200 AUD brand new too. Great value!

I sometimes wonder why I don't have one. Especially the newer all lumed version. Such a solid no frills watch to go anywhere and do anything with.

I think I'll try to avoid this thread in fear of pictures that I'm sure are soon to come.

I don't care for it in pictures but when I see one in person I think it looks great. I'd consider one but probably not as my next. Leaning YM, DJ, or saving for a while longer and stepping into PM. Which might cost me my marriage...

Yes you’re right. I feel the same way but with my 114060. Still, the Explorer is the perfect “low profile” watch with so much history beneath. A history shared with the original sub: both were created in 1953 and both legends. Still, my sub has the most wrist time even comparing with my other watches (Daytona, GMT C).
Cheers.

I regard it more as classic rather than boring. Everyone has their own tastes, but I personally like things that are a bit more conservative stylistically.

I know just what you mean. I liken the Explorer to a white t-shirt. Classic, simple, bad ass. Could be seen as boring and tough at the same time.

I kind of get it...I had been toying with the idea of getting one for a while, after they upsized the case to 39. Then, the 2016 tweaks with the all lume dial and longer hands...I had to have it.

Sadly, I wasn't blown away. It's a nice watch, don't get me wrong. There's only a limited number of pieces I can own and I can't see it working its way in.

Could it be that in our fast paced, information saturated age, that a device that simply tells you the time disturbs us?

And, on the other hand, the design perfection pleases us.

Hence, the dichotomy.

Even though people praise the Explorer for appearing discrete and subdued, there is no doubt that it is a Rolex. Yes, it's extremely comfortable and has a somewhat simple dial, but this is no longer just a tool watch but also has a bit of bling. I wear mine so often that sometimes I forget. My buddy recently wore a new one to my apartment and it definitely gave off a flashy vibe from the polished ring around the bezel and somewhat reflective dial. Every time I think about selling mine to save up for a Daytona, I try it on and could never imagine parting with it. The size is perfect and bracelet so comfortable.

Owned it, flipped it, want it back! Safe to say I completely understand. If I was in a position to add, not trade / flip, I would def have one. Since I am not parting with Snowflake or SubC, the explorer will have to wait... For now.

I recently fell in love with the explorer 1, but the 36mm size for me. Bought a used one and then found one NOS and could not resist!

Such a cool watch. people will not notice that you are wearing a Rolex. perfect for travelling

Mine doesn't get as much wrist time as it should but I couldn't imagine parting with it.
