Saw AUSTRALIA !!!

Hey Guys:

I went to see Australia, the film. I thought the acting was superb and the
story line well developed. The cinematography is fantastic. The story centers around the Northern Territories of Australia in the late 1930's, and the coming of World War II. It centers on a love story between a young 'titled' Englishwoman and her Australian lover, and the Aborigine boy they come to love. I give it five stars !!! I highly recommend it for anyone who remembers what movies used to be about and what the term 'classic' means.
Having said that, I'm certain given the diversity of taste on this Forum, I'm about to hear some negative feedback, but I don't really care, the movie has legs of its own.

My wife has been talking about seeing it. After I tell her your review she'll want to see it even more.

I want to see it as well. I love movies like that. It reminded me of; "Out of Africa."

I look forward to seeing it shortly.

Well, as to visits to Australia, maybe the next trip to Thailand, I'll stop by and have a pint...is that how you say it? Meantime, it might make you cry, but it's legitimate theatre versus cheap theatrics. The difference? Well, as Terry pointed out, Out of Africa is a great film. You might cry when a character dies, but it's legitimately produced emotion, versus 'cheap thrills'. I'm not sure how you measure that on a scale, but I know it when I see it. The film does carry on a bit about the then extant policy of taking Aborigine children away from their families to 'civilize' them by exposing them to an Australian education and the Chrisitian religion for which policy the Australian government has apparenly apologized, but I take it all as history. The U.S. had slavery, and we still struggle to overcome its effects down to this moment. I loved this film, and urge you not to miss this one on the 'Big Screen.'
