AD Inventory

I am new to the Rolex World and I am trying to purchase my first one. I posted a thread about New or Used and decided after all the feedback to go new and buy one from an AD.

Well now that I have decided that now I have to find an AD that has stock!! I have called and visited the three in my area and have had no luck! Worse yet no time table and a waiting list a mile long!!

So suggestions please, should I just start calling AD’s off the Rolex Website. Will they deal with someone out of state? Will they do wires or credit cards for payment or am I at the mercy of waiting in line.

Thanks again, I never knew that buying a Rolex would be this involved!!

It hasn’t always been this way. The current situation is a recent phenomenon. Which reference are you interested in?

I am looking for 116610LN, however I haven’t even tried on, so I also thought maybe 116710LN. My only concern is without trying on the watches which one I really want.

Would strongly recommend trying the watch on before buying. Doing so not only saved me from making a potential mistake, but introduced me to other watches I might not have considered.

Rolex is not an inexpensive watch. My advice: do not buy without first trying on.

Indeed the lack of Rolex Sports Model inventory is relatively new within the past year and not expected to improve this year per other TRF posts. That said, the Subs and GMTs are still coming in and you may need to go out of your geographic area. Look up some Authorized Dealers and call and/or email them. It might take a while, but I'm sure you will get one of those. Trying them on in advance is the tricky part, but ADs might have some in the back which they might let you try on (but unfortunately not buy). Good luck in your search. Cheers!

I agree but if my AD’s don’t have the one I’m looking for what should I do. I have not seen the GMT II yet but have seen 116613LB and had that on but being it’s not the same I can’t judge!

You get into Rolex SS Sport a bit late, with Rolex new scarcity marketing these basic watches will be hard to come by...But my advice is keep on trying. Good luck

I visited 2 separate AD's in the past few weeks and both had 116610LN and 116710LN in the display. Last one had a DeepSea, D-Blue and Z-Blue as well. Keep looking, they are out there.

I would definitely try on any watch you buy. Since the AD's near you(Pittsburg) don't have much in stock for SS Sport models see if you can take a day road trip to a city that has stock. There is limited stock everywhere but if you dig around you'll be able to find something before getting in the car and hitting the road. In terms of the actual purchase I'd recommend some trusted sellers on TRF. Once you know what you want they will be able to get it for you usually much faster than the AD's. Good luck and I'm sure it will work out.

It seems like the further you get away from big cities, availability improves.

Grey market dealers are very reputable these days - DavidSW is well recommended here on TRF.

The grey market might be cheaper than an AD once you factor in local and state taxes.

Did you get good vibes from any of the ADs you visited? When I lived in Pittsburgh I always liked browsing at Henne in Shadyside. They were always nice and eager to talk watches, even though I couldn’t afford a Rolex at the time. I think if you got along with any of the salespeople and stopped in often you might get lucky. Subs and GMT’s may not be in the case these days, but I think ADs are still getting a regular, if limited, supply.

Given you are in PA I would consider taking a day trip to Govberg’s facility just outside Philly where they have their vaults or pre-owned watches. You can try on as many watches as you want and check a few days before on line what they have in stock and if you don’t see something you can call and ask if they have it as there is a lag from the time they get a watch on site to the time it is listed on the website .
