Black DaytonaC and SubC...too redundant?

I have a Daytona 116500 in black as my only >$2k watch and would like to add another. I sold my Explorer 1 a few months back and am thinking about adding a 116610LN as my second watch. Does anybody have both? Would you find them too redundant as the only two higher end watches in your collection? Should I be looking at something else instead?

EDIT:
-I have a few other watches in my collection, so I do have color/variety, but these would be my only two high end watches.
-I like relatively understated watches. The BLNR and hulk don’t really speak to me.

They are fairly different. The two watches will certainly wear differently - the Sub being larger and heavier. The complications are different - chrono vs. a dive watch. The dials a both black, but will look completely different from each other.

My only issue in owning a ceramic Daytona and a Sub as a 2-watch collection is that I would never take the Daytona off and the Sub would sit collecting dust.

Perhaps consider waiting for a new Pepsi if you like that watch, or buy a 16710 GMT Pepsi used if you're okay owning a secondhand one. To me at least, the ultimate 2 watch collection is a ceramic Daytona + Pepsi GMT. Another option for you might be the SD43 - even more different than the Daytona than the Sub is, but with a similar theme.

My sub doesn't get a look in since I bought my Daytona.... I'd go for something different. Maybe another brand?

IMO, yes. If I got a black Dial Daytona I would let my Sub go. Too similar to justify the expense.

I think they look and feel very different apart from the color.

I love both and don’t think it’s too redundant. If you start wearing one less and lose your draw to it, you can always sell.

In a small collection I would prefer diff colour dials

im aiming for 1 x blue / 1 x black / 1 x white

In a larger collection I would not care having 2 blacks!!

Two very different watches but also similar in color and bracelet. I would look at the Polar Explorer II. Different dial and it has the orange hand which adds some pop for me.

Ones a diver the other a chrono ... I know that’s obvious, but two very different watches in terms of style, function and how they wear.

In my eyes they're very different.

Although tastes change and grow over time, I love the Submariner and although I adore Motorsport and have the cash to buy, the current ceramic Daytona does nothing for me, so I'm going for the Submariner.

So for me it's not one or the other; They're very different watches.

Have both and soon to add a BLNR. No redundancy between the Sub and Daytona; two entirely different watches.

As said before, and I agree.... if in a small collection, I’d say too redundant, big collection, no problem. If rotating these two most often .... Chrono/diver..yes, different size, yes...but when looking down at your wrist...still black dial, black bezel. My .02

Ideally you’d have the white Daytona and the subc. With a black Daytona I would not get a black subc. Maybe a hulk?

Like you, I have a small collection of “nice” watches, and I like to have dial variety. If I owned a black Daytona, I’d probably look adding an Explorer II polar, white Skydweller, or a white dial DJ 41.

They're two totally different pieces. I think it's a perfect mix unless you want a change of color.

Different - one with cyclops and date while the others doesn’t. Both can co-exist even in a small collection. Go for it!

If you had a Sub now and were considering a D500 then I'd say get the white one. But there's nothing wrong with having two black dial watches. I have two Rolex and both are black dial. You like what you like. That said, the Sub LV, as previously mentioned, would make a hell of a pair.

Thats the problem with the black daytona, it doesn't really stand out. I would try it and try and get a white dial for the contrast.

Since you already have a sub, I personally would do one of 2 things:

1 - If going for the daytona, I would get the white dial to add contrast. I also prefer the white dial - again personal preference.

2 - Skip the daytona and grab yourself a Speedy, which is just as iconic (Although daytona wears better) for less than half the price of a daytona, which leaves room for another piece (Vintage rolex, OP, tudor etc.).

It's a good predicament to be in! Post photos once you've pulled the trigger

Personally, I'd try to add some color.

Not sure a the standard Sub (which is great) would get much time after having the Daytona.

Not redundant in the least.

They are both Rolex and both have a black dial.
It would appear that many find those two characteristics shared between two watches to be redundant. I mean, really?

In a 3 or less watch collection, then yes, too redundant. Would be ok in a larger collection though.

I have a black Daytona C , GMT LN and a LV. All have black dials and each wears differently. I only wear my Daytona on weekends and my LV on special occasions. I personally like Rolex sports watches in black.
