GMT "fuchsia" bezels have been getting crazy in price. Does anybody know if there are any telltale signs of a regular red back bezel being a future fuchsia bezel? I have one that I swear looks slightly pink in certain light, but I'm not sure if it will age to a fuchsia color.

Do they all need to be fat font red backs? Thanks, any insight is greatly appreciated

Redbacks for value.

Yes I would supsect an early pink might get to Fuchsia but it could go gray too - time is the master we cannot yet control

Fuchsia bezels were initially already pupleish. Imho only around 1968 together with matte mk1 dials. Here is a catalogue pic from 1968.

Yep. I'd like to also add the fuchsia'ish back don't all fade to fuchsia in the front. I got one that looks more strawberry in front but definitely fuchsia in the back like my other fuchsia inserts.

Slight typo. Catelogue is from 1969.

IMO if it’s not fuchsia by now after almost 50 years, I doubt you can still find a NOS that hasn’t faded. Just for fun, here is fuchsia for you.

No it will not ever become a fuchsia. It has to start out life with a vibrant vivid pinkish purple back and has to be from the MK 1 1675 GMT era. I currently own 15+ of them, and all has it’s own unique colour. I’ve got several brand new ones that were never mounted on a watch. The only thing they all have in common is a vibrant purple back. Not red not not pink not blue. But pinkish purple.

I disagree with this statement. It starts life as a Fuchsia due to a defect in the paint. It only becomes faded fuchsia due to time and climate. A true fuchsia would never become grey.

Highly unusual. In my experience all fuchsia backs are fuchsia front. If you don’t mind, I would like to see this oddball you speak off.

I think what he meant is the “blue” part turning grey like the one I showed above. The base is red, or fuchsia in this case, will never turn other color. Maybe fade to lighter color, but would not turn to other color.

In my opinion, that photo is a "file photo." Definitely not a Mark I matte dial as found during 1968 or 1969 production. Personally, it appears to be a gilt dial under magnification. Their catalog photos were used for several back then and were not changed every year. As an example, red Sub dials can be found in their owner's manual until the late 1970s.

1968 case back, 1.8 million GMT-MASTER 1675. With fuchsia insert and original oval-link Jubilee bracelet.

Definely not? You have better eye sight then me then. :)

I see a Long E and I see a big GMT hand. To me it is clearly a matte dial. Nevertheless the interesting part is that the fuchsia insert actually had a fuchsia color to start with. They haven’t faded to this color.

To me they are after gilt dials. Sweet spot around 1968.
