Hello!
I recently inherited a GMT Masters II from my grandfather. The watch is very old and in need of a servicing. How do I go about this endeavor and what is the price range I should expect to come across when said and done? Also what does a servicing entail? I've heard the watch will be like New?

It would help us to know a little more about this watch. I recommend you snap some photos and share them here.

Depending on its age and condition, there are a range of options for providers best suited to your needs, and there will be advice from members here about specific direction you should give to the provider who services it, especially if you may want to retain character and patina it may have.

Start by posting photos of the watch here, and then be patient while lots of good advice comes in from members.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your grandfather, but glad for your good fortune to inherit his GMT.

If you can, would enjoy seeing a few photos of it. IMHO send it to Rolex Service Center in Texas. If you call them, they will send you the proper shipping box and packing bits free of charge.

What you have may be extremely valuable. That value will be based on the original condition of the watch, and restoring it to "like new" will destroy that value. If you send the watch to Rolex, their stated goal is to return the watch to as close to "like new" as possible. If this is what you want, then fine. But it's probably not a good idea.

What you want is a good movement service and replacement of things like gaskets to ensure water tightness. Replacing the dial and hands and refinishing/polishing the watch would be inadvisable if you want to maintain the value of the watch. There are many great watchmakers around the country that can provide this service for you. There's no advantage in going through Rolex directly for this kind of service... you want that personal communication with the watchmaker.

You'll get some good advice on this forum. Consider it before making any decisions.
