Sea Dweller Opportunity

I have an opportunity to buy a Sea Dweller today. I’m not sure I really want to do so.

I have a BLNR GMT II and I am worried that the Sea Dweller will look too similar, just a lot bigger. Maybe way too bigger.

My wife is encouraging me to buy a nice watch for my birthday (a big one) so this is a good opportunity.

I just don’t want to buy the new watch and then not want to wear it.

Was offered an SD43 and passed. Simply too big for my wrist. Perhaps a Daytona or Day-Date would better diversify your collection.

Considering how you feel about it I think you should pass. it's supposed to be thrilling, what's the point otherwise?

What size is your wrist? Under 7.5 inch I wouldn’t bother. If you have a bigger wrist try it and I guarantee you will fall in love

Good advice all around. If you loved the watch at first sight and can't stop thinking about it, then it's probably a great pick.

this sums up the genius of the Rolex supply squeeze perfectly. You are considering buying a watch you may not want. Unthinkable in an era of readily available stock.

My wrist is right at 7". I wear an old yellow gold DayDate as a daily watch. I have a DateJust 36mm that feels just right. I also have a Patek Calatrava that lives in the gun safe.

My real desire is for a new DayDate (in addition to my old one) in white gold. But, I hate to spend that much on myself.

Does your opportunity include trying it on?

If yes, don't miss the opportunity to do so. Best to decide that way, rather than based on a preconceived notion.

It's a beautiful, perfectly proportioned piece. The SD43 fits my scrawny 6 7/8" wrist perfectly.

My guess is that the SD43 will be too large for you.

Wrist size? I also have the BLNR and I like my SD43 better. However, I have a 7.5 inch wrist. They wear very different and I believe the SD is more comfortable

Sea Dweller Opportunity

The other two seemed a little puny on me.
My wrist is nearly 8”

Try it on, and I agree with everyone else.
The SD43 is NOT for you.

Leave the watch for someone that will love it and wear it. If you can drop that kinda coin, buy something that speaks to you.

Hi see it. Try it and then decide based in what you think, not the thoughts (often with no real life experience) of people on here.

Although good to see a few SD43 owners chiming in.

My wrist is slightly smaller than yours. My SD43 is my daily and more comfortable than my sub was. Don’t stress the size until you actually see it in the metal. Then, if it’s to big and/or you don’t like it, move on.

It doesn’t need to be difficult

I agree

You have to try it on to determine whether it’s for you. I have a 7” wrist and in all honesty it’s perfectly sized (to my taste).

Good luck

The shape of your wrist has a lot to do with it as well as your overall build.if you’re a bigger guy with a flat wrist you’ll be golden.

Agreed .

I say go for it !!!
Sd43 is not the BLNR !!!! Simple and Fact !!!
Sd43 = Diver with brushed bracelet
BLNR = GMT / Pilot watch with PCL’s on bracelet

I don’t understand, if your not thrilled to get a watch why would you buy it (because it’s hyped on here) or make a thread about it?

You don’t very excited about it so why would you drop 12k on it. If you want to make sure, go try it on and see how you feel about it. I think the size may surprise you. The SD43 is in no way too similar to the BLNR though so I wouldn’t worry about that.

For me the two aren't close although they both have rotating bezels. One a gmt and one a deep diver. Size is considerably different as well. If the similarity is the only thing putting you off then I'd likely let that go. Other's might question if a Daytona and Sub were too similar both with black on black bezel and dials. How about watches with black dials being too similar. Or perhaps all round watches being too similar...etc?

I own an SD43, the BLNR, and a Hulk. I can tell you they all have their merits, and for sure....the SD43 and the BLNR can play very nicely with each other in the same collection. They're different watches for sure.

As many have said, go try it on. Take your BLNR and spend some time deciding when you actually have the piece in the flesh to compare to your BLNR on "your wrist". You may have a totally different point of view when you see it first hand. Simple as that.

Good luck!

I agree with this.

Although personally I've been considering adding this to my collection that already has a black GMT. I'm somewhat coming to a point where I want each watch in my collection to stand on it's own.

The obvious answer is try it in and see. No issue with looking too much like a GMT. Two totally different watches. Your issue will be the size. 7" wrist can pull it off bit depends a lot in the shape of your wrist. Flat wrist cab do it no problem at 6.5". If more round, need to be >7" I believe.
