Rolex nonsense in acquiring a skydweller ss link

Some of you may remember a thread I had up addressing my AD’s inability to acquire me a link for my stainless steel sky dweller. There have been multiple threads addressing the fact that the sky dweller is shorter than the normal Rolex. I think I’m qualified to agree with and comment on this, as I own a dozen or so of their pieces.

The skydweller ss is short. No big deal though, I’ll just buy another link, right? Wrong.

Rolex has had none in stock for eight months. The only link available in the company, is only available for walk in service in New York. Tney would only sell it for service. Not ship to my dealer.

I mean seriously, do they even care at this point? I’m guessing no. You’d almost have to try to be less interested than Rolex is right now in making sure customers are happy.

I was offered a link to purchase by a member here, I said great, how much would you like? $50? More? and they asked me what would you pay? Stupid question.

Long story short, found a single link for sale in the Netherlands, received it in Florida in three days via FedEx. Cost me $150 shipped. The sky dweller, without a doubt one of my favorite Rolex, now fits perfect.

Anyone who has ever had customer service dealings with AP or PP, will tell you the experience is like a rapture. Treated like a king, even if u only own one. Customer service or purchasing from Rolex at this point is like root canal. As I’ve said, I own a dozen or more of their watches. I won’t be adding any more anytime soon.

Tolerance level reached. I love their watches, but their current interest level in keeping people as regular customers feels like zero. To me.

I do not think the AD was being straight with you. They should and can order links, they may need to see your watch though. Did you actually talk to Rolex in NYC or were you told that from your AD?

A link directly from rolex would not be $50, that is fairly low and at the point of a charitable offer as the seller would lose money on that transaction, I would guess somewhere between $67-$100.

Incorrect. My AD bends over backwards for me. I confirmed with Rolex myself. The links are not available. Long term backorder.

And yes. They’ve ordered links for me in the past.

sorry to hear! This kind of nonsense is infuriating. I dealt with some of it trying to buy a link for my DD40 a couple years ago. and I live in NY lol.

I have to say though, bad on your AD for not making something happen. They should really be putting the pressure on NY to get that link to them. I don't know the whole story, but I would have definitely been putting the pressure on them.

Good luck! Hopefully once you get things sorted, you'll be able to move past it and enjoy that amazing watch.

I would be surprised if Rolex couldn't get you a link, they would want you to go through an AD though I am sure. I think I there would be more to gain by writing a letter to Rolex in Switzerland vs. a post on here.

All sorted out. Enjoying it just fine. Just took 3 months of hunting and finding a link in the Netherlands.

I’m surprised that you read my post, that I’ve told you at least twice that I spent nearly an hour on the phone with Rolex, with two different people, in my best nice as can be voice, and was told they are on backorder for the forseeable future and had no record of shipping one with in the last five months.

If my post triggers you, I would suggest you move on.

Wow, this is really sad. Several members here are showing signs of "Rolex fatigue". Ultimately I guess that this Sky Dweller SS link shortage is unrelated to the other dynamics that we are observing but one wonders whether Rolex is really moving in the right direction.

If my post triggers you, I would suggest you move on.

1) Rolex doesn't really handle direct calls to customers well. They do letters well. And I am not the only one here to suggest the AD could have got it done, which I think is a reasonable assumption given experiences and your description.

2) I think you should write Rolex in switzerland, you may get a some swag or not, but at least your voice will be heard.

3) Nothing I said is offensive, nothing you could say to me would offend me. I would reread what I wrote you are inferring things I didn't imply if you think I am upset or you are getting upset.

4) Why would it surprise you to know I read your post? You never wrote that you spent an hour on the phone with Rolex. You mentioned that you called them once and I don't even think you said that, I can only find "I confirmed this with Rolex". And what is Rolex? A service center or Rolex USA, I mean it's a fairly ambiguous statement because of that I'm not sure I would pound the table saying "I've told you this before!"

5) You seem offended at the back order and then you shoot a really low offer to a seller who contacted you, and then get offended when they ask you to name the first price. The only person who seems to be offended here is you, perhaps you get offended too much?

Glad it worked out for you.

This is the epitome of complete BS on Rolex's part!! I mean a freaking link for god sakes is the most basic part needed to fit a watch to a customers wrist properly

Glad you got it sorted out, and can finally enjoy your watch. I am with you on being done with Rolex as well and am glad that I have what I want from them.

Seriously. Which part of there was only one in the company, and it was not available to ship to AD, don’t you understand? Not only did Rolex handle my question very well, the lady even called me back to inform me that the one unit they had was unavailable for retail sale through an AD. Service only.

My AD HAD ordered it for me. But Rolex didn’t ship what they didn’t have available to ship. So I waited nearly 6 months.

Rolex can’t ship what doesn’t exist.

I had to buy a 1.5 link from AP for my RO recently, and they shipped it overnight to me. Had it in less than 24 hours. The irony is, it turns out I don't need it! I was overthinking the fit and the RO fits best without the silly 1.5 link. Oh well.

But APs customer service was solid.

Everybody's an expert except the one guy, (who owns at least a dozen), that was looking for the link.

Certain people, I wonder how they get through daily life. How they function with other people on a face-to-face basis.

I don't know about links, but for the easylink, it is exactly as you described. I have similar experience trying to acquire an easylink for my Daytona because I misplaced it when I was trying to resize the bracelet. The AD says there is nothing they could do, and I had to contact Rolex Service Center in Beverley Hills. The link itself was $81 USD, but the time and airfare to get there is a lot more.

Spot on. I am lucky enough to live about 25 minutes from AP headquarters in Clearwater Florida. Anytime I needed anything or wanted to have something done, or simply wanted to stop by and look at the strap options or what not, you’re really treated like family. You let them know you’d like to come, they tell you when to come, and they welcom you with a smile. Once you’re past the well supplied security, of course....

:)

Right. And then you have Omega, Who goes out of their way to make sure that nearly all of their buckle or closure fittings or clasps will work on nearly all of their pieces. I added a micro adjust to my liquid metal planet ocean 46. Easy as can be. Called Omega, Gave me the part numbers, sent them my way. Done.

I dont know... I literally email my PP contact in NYC, and she overnights me links/etc. She's overnnighted me both an aquanaut deployment clasp, and the rubber straps, and recently a 1.5 link for the Aquanaut.

She's got my card on file (she asked me to fill a form once).

Also about a week ago I bought the same for my AP, the deployant and rubber strap for my AP ROC , and same story, overnight. No hassle.

None of this Rolex crap from either PP or AP.

What makes the Sky Dweller Oyster link different from other PCL Oyster links?
