That is indeed cracks, and yes at some point lume will fall off it isn't remedied. One fix that can be done is to apply glue to the backside of the hands. However, this is not a procedure that I think any official rolex repair shop would do.

You can get them stabilised but that might change the color of the tritium,,, alternatively you can source some new hands however it will be hard to find something that matches the patina of the dial you have and you dont really want to have luminova hands either

Those cracks have been there for a while. If careful and considering the pampered lives our watches lead, wouldnt they stay that way?

Vintage lume can fall out whether it cracks or not. It was never made to last forever.

Id say leave it as is and don't bother with it, esp if it matches the hr plots on the dial.

Thanks guys for your comment.
Was wondering - are there ways to slow down from cracking ? Or will it get worse ? First time into vintage Rolex and just learnt there are so many things to know !! |

Tritium paint was water-based and will craze, crack or fall out over time or with a sharp shock such as dropping your watch on a hard surface.
Stabilizing is possible but the results aren't always desirable. As mentioned above, it can discolor the hands over time. Getting the hands re-lumed with the original paint formula (but without tritium), color matched to the dial, would be the most ideal. I don't know who can do that in HK, however. |

Extreme fluctuations in temperatures (hot/cold - expansion/contraction) are your worst enemy. If unexposed to temp extremes you should be able to wear your watch without too much concern. Just monitor the handset for any noticeable changes. ____________ Instagram: @onthedial |

Let’s see the rest of the watch!
As to your crack, looks like a surface crack. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
