Datejust 41 vs Explorer 2
Looking at getting one of these as my next watch I've had the older explorer 2 but never had a datejust. I know they are 2 totally different watches I'm looking at the datejust for something different as I have a omega seamaster gmt and a Tudor pelagos. I do wear them for work I work on a boat so they do get scratched but not as bad as you would think. For those who own the datejust can you wear them as an everyday watch. I know the explorer can take the punishment that I would give it can the datejust. Thank you

Daily wearer!! Prior to my DJ41, I owned a DJ36 and wore it every day for 10 years. There were some scuffs, scratches, etc. on the braclet, the the fluted bezel hides a lot.

DJII is my daily wear, 116334 with fluted bezel. DJ41 gets the 70 power revered so slight improvement in the movement. I do work in the office and suit up 5 days a week, and even than, I might get a few scratches accidentally on desk and working on laptops. It’s going to be a very dressy sport piece imo, especially with the fluted bezel. I would consider the non fluted bezel DJ41 or even an without a date, an Explorer 1 / AK. I am on the flip side looking at an Explorer II for the weekends for more rugged and understated causal. However, I see you have other GMT and rugged pieces already. I even find a GMT II too bling due to the polish centre link, just like the DJ41/DJII. If you are working in a non office base environment, I would think twice to have it as a daily wear as it can be too dressy from my experience. You could get away with a DJ36 though as it is much more versatile due to size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No problem. Made of the same steel as the sports watches. Has a oyster case and with the cape cod cloths anything short of a gouge can be buffed out. Had a datejust 41 fluted jubilee and banged it around. Dropped it in my tub and wasn’t babying it at all. Had it for about 8 months and traded it in and other then the clasp looked brand new. I got all my money back out of it. Traded for a DJll diamond dial btw. My daily for 3 months now and still looks new.

I got a 36mm Datejust on a jubilee with a fluted bezel as my daily beater, I work in office, but on my spare time I still use the Datejust in what ever I am doing, and it is holding up very well. After around 6 years now it got a few scratches but not much I would say. I have bumped it into some heavy things through the years. I remember one time something got between me and the bracelet and I got caught hanging by the watch, nothing broke. Someone by accident one time slammed a metal door right into it and i was sure the sapphire crystal had broken, but nothing. And only 3-4 weeks ago my 2 year old kid did throw it a couple of meters through the air and smack down on the tiles, could not see any change. So I would definitely say that a Datejust can manage as a daily beater, as long as you accept some scratches here and there and on polished part you see the scratches much better then on the Explorer II.

From a functional standpoint a date just 41 can do anything an explorer can. It only lacks the complication of additional TimeZone. Also has a newer movement.

IMO the older 16570 explorer is superior to the new 216570, so if you already have that, get a DJ or an OP to diversify. I would go with a 114300 OP if it was me.

daily wearer in caves or spelunking = Explorer II
daily wearer desk diving = Datejust 36, 41 or II.... my preference having all is the DJ41 daily wearer timing stuff ( boiled eggs, how fast you can run to Starbucks ) = Daytona daily wearer for weight training = Milguass ( or actually anything like a Platona ).... daily wearer for people asking "is that a fake" = Sub or GMT daily wearer for other WIS asking "is that a fake" = COMEX . or one of those EXP42's that have "Who Dares Wins" on the side and you dress up in black combats .....all other daily wearer welcome oh one came to mind.... daily wearer for people saying "thats a nice watch, looks just like a Michael Kors" = Everose Daytona

I especially bought my DJ2 36 to be worn everyday. It’s versatile enough to fit all occasions. Last week I wore it while building a deck. I was a bit afraid of the electric drill and saw, but nothing happened. After I was done, I jumped in the pool.
It’s an all around talent for sure! I love it. I got the white Roman dial version. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
