Obgiltory introduction.

Caution- long.

In 1964 I met our neighbor Wally. I was 9. He was a big scrapping adventure man. Hunted bear, fished, was gone to exotic places like Cincinnati...hey I was 9. And he wore a Rolex Explorer. Talked about it a lot. Saved his life in the army, helped him time his shot for an elk, helped him get home after a bad night in a desert bar. (I believed it all). I was smitten. The Rolex explorer was the finest time piece in the world.

Life happened. I fell in love with this cutie, we had 4 kids, joined the traveling circus (Pastors for the Salvation Army) and never had the money to fulfill the watch dream. I got into other watches.....Seiko, Citizen, Swiss Army. All nice, but not the Explorer.

I retired. Actually, after open heart surgery I went out on disability. Got me a "rest of my life" Seiko automatic watch and put to bed the dream.

Fathers day 2018- Son travels 300 miles after working all weekend. Gives me a gold box................with a 214270 Rolex Explorer. (Yeah, I cried......shut up!) The boy making such effort to visit his old man was touching enough....but the dream watch. Wow. So, now I am "in the club"....Pretty cool son.
