Case damage due to bezel removal - Fixable by RSC?
Ladies and gents,
I recently purchased a mint V serial 16610 from a long known and very respected seller of pre-owned Rolex and other higher-end Swiss made watches. Upon receipt of the watch, I noticed the following damage on the 6 o’clock side, likely due to a bezel removal gone wrong by the original owner: ![]() I notified the seller and we discussed options (he didn’t see the damage when he acquired the watch). My question to the Forum is – will a Rolex Service polish this area of the case as part of the normal service? If not, can I request that or would you advise against that? My assumption is that even if Rolex Service can polish this up, it wouldn’t take it back to its completely original look, but may make it look better. I know that this is an area that many will never see, but I know it’s there. Thanks in advance for your thoughts/comments, bpoGMT |

I'd follow SeaChart's advice on this

The so-called respected seller needs to refund you the money. Send it back to him.

Prying the bezel off with a knife without using tape. I usually do it on the top right lug where the spring is and have a plastic bag to prevent scratching.
The damage shown can definitely be somewhat touched up, but as it is on the edge of the case it will never be a sharp edge again. |

It can be laser welded and resurfaced. Personal is it on the back and you would never see it. But if it bugs you then get your money back.

Isnt the watch serial number right under there? Any type of work would make that potentially unreadable.

hmmm. Makes you wonder if someone took a flat head screwdriver and hammered away. Very messy and why would you go from there anyways. If a knife was used the obvious leverage point would be a lug. It's a short distance and strong. When holding a knife, we're looking for a good leverage point. We wouldn't go from there and it wouldn't leave those marks.

that is some serious marring ... why not return it? Shouldn't be an issue if the seller is reputable. Even if you get someone that wants to attempt a repair, the cost will likely not be trivial AND no one can guarantee that you'll be satisfied with the result.
Plenty of these out there so it's easiest to find another, at least that's what i would do. |
