What does everyone think about this: GMW-B 5000 D-1

I have a $550 store credit after buying my Black Bay Heritage this weekend so my AD told me he could get this new G-Shock in the next week for me. What do y’all think? I recently bought a resin G-Shock but realized I really only like wearing a steel bracelet, so this is the perfect “beater” for me. I’m thinking $500 is steep for a G-Shock, but I’ve seen some that really get up there, and also seen this model for $700-$800 on the grey market.

If you like G-shocks it’s a no-brainer, super cool watch. Bracelet is ok and it sits nice on the wrist although the lugs flair out quite a bit so I have a big overhang, but it’s acceptable.

Functionality wise standard gshock stuff plus added positioning memory via Bluetooth, solar power and radio sync.

The polishing of bezel reminds of Aquanaut and looks quite nice.

Get it!

I saw something similiar today on another site. Might have been Watchrecon, can’t remember. I think its pretty cool but don’t think I could shell out the money for it.

Yes it’s massive, maybe 6cm don’t have it with me, so I have an overhang in my 6.5” wrists. But for this watch I accept it.

Tried to unscrew the bracelet once but the screws are fake...

Neat watch! What is the bluetooth memory position all about? I only have / have seen the tough solar ones.

So did you take the plunge...

Just picked this one up Friday - memory lane back to the mid-late 80s

What does everyone think about this: GMW-B 5000 D-1

I have a M5610 that I like for it's old school classic look, but not sure I would like the look of it in a SS case and bracelet. Hoping to be able to check it out in person.

$500? Looks cheap and a little jokey, to me.

Sweet!

The SS tribute is just that, a tribute and probably the last thing you would picture bearing the G-Shock title. It does have a resin layer between the outer case & inner core but at almost 170g not to mention the high-polish case & bracelet, I wouldn't put it through the abuse the original G-Shock was intended for.

If you're a old-school G-Shock fan, I'd recommend it as the tribute-piece that it is intended to be. For the rest, it will be of little interest

Not in the mode to drop $500 on a Casio. Just got a nice one for $14.

I got the call last week that it’s at the AD. Just need to find some time to go down and pick it up. I’m excited! How are you liking it?

Love it But again, it's a tribute and not really the best "field" G-Shock.
This is the one a G-Shock fan wears to work / evening - come to think of it, might now just be my bling-iest watch...

p.s. You also need to be comfortable with (relatively) heavy watches. I have enough 150g+ watches so it's not a topic. It weighs the same as my Omega SM300MC, but more than my 16600 (Sea Dweller) and thus a good deal more than a classic Submariner. The next step up is my 126600 SD, weighing in at 180g

^ mmm ^ that pic shows off the brushed bezel rather nicely.
I wished there were more brushing and a little less polishing, but it's a very cool watch

This thing looks so cool. But, I'm having a hard time with Casio even calling this thing, "All-Metal."

That's a metal shell over a resin case. Still, I'm sure these will all sell like hotcakes.

The bezel is metal, The red insert is a shock absorber. And the inner case is DLC stainless steel with screwdown caseback.

Not quite "all metal", but all metal enough in my book (while maintaining the shock resistant property of the watch)

Oh wait, the module holder and some of the module parts are not metal, so may be you can correct afterall.

I think you're right. Two metal parts(Case and "bezel") Separated by the shock absorbing resin. I also wonder if there is more inside the case as well. Sorry I got my info wrong. But, yeah, even seeing the term "Full Metal" thrown around too.

they do have a lower cost model out that's called GW-B5600 (I think, or something like that). It has resin parts all over, case back is secured by 4 screws. That has the same BT module but not much metal, and a much reduced cost. :)
