Suggestion for next Patek
I’m having real difficulty deciding on my next Patek. My AD has indicated that I could have either a 5524 or a 5205 blue dial this year. I am 38, so I prefer something that can be worn casually. My existing collection includes mostly Rolex sport models as well as the following:
5522 5726 white dial 5296 sector dial 5146 ivory dial 5164 Thanks. |

Suggestion for next Patek
Anything but the 5205 is my vote. 5524 is great looking. Why not 5711, 5712, 5131!?

Since you want casual and are already on the list for a 5711 (which was what I will recommend if you have not followed up with another post), what about a 5968? You will also have the honor of the first ever incoming in this forum

I will vote for: 5205.
Plus its 2018 release and wear 40mm compare to 42mm (5524). BTW you have a very nice collection of Pateks

No contest, 5524 is much nicer as a casual watch, if you want a casual one, so pretty obvious which to choose IMHO

I’ll vote for the 5205, it looks different in your current collection. I’ll also go for customized nice straps which will add to it another sporty look. Classical/sporty combination sometimes gives a better looks than each style alone.

IMHO the 5524 is very similar to the 5522. I wouldn't like to have both. I was about to recommend 5711 RG as it will be very different to your current collection but as you are waiting for the 5711, why not consider the 5712 RG?

I like that you don't have many of the usual suspects so I say stay pure and get the 5205 blue.

You may consider adding a PC, chrono or WT, but only if you like a diverse range of watches. |

With the 5522 already I would get neither... and go 5990. I love the 5524 too so if you want two pilots go for that

I don’t really get it - are you getting something because your AD said you can, or were you waiting for those 2 watches anyway?
Of the 2 I’d get the 5524. |

its madness. Tons of people these days buy whatever they get offered so in general its pretty common. Over in the Rolex section its constant.... Im on the list for a blue sky dweller and got offered the black so i bought that. Or i want a white daytona but im buying the black because my AD offered me that one. I dont get it.

I have been interested in the 5524 for some time (which I thought might be allayed by the 5522, but hasn’t) and my AD said they could allocate either that watch or another Basel ‘18 piece for me to purchase. I’ve gone back and forth between the 5205 blue and the 5524, so wanted to solicit opinions. |

Agreed, Rolex might be even worse. I also wanted the blue Skydweller and ended up settling for white. I think it ended up being the right decision as I have been very happy with the watch. |

I really like the 5524 but there is too much overlap with the 5522.
Could trade 22 away but not the most exciting exchange from 1 to the other and the 22 is likely to appreciate.

Look at it this way, buy some pieces that maybe you wouldnt have purchased otherwise, its gets you access to the pieces you really want, and because the first purchases are still desirable in their own right you could sell those over time and not be much (if any) out of pocket. If one doesnt have a prior AD relationship and access it may be a reasonable strategy. With the current limited supply and seemingly increasing demand, there is added inherent value to every desirable piece, even excluding secondary market pricing speculation. |

I also try to be respectful and only buy watches that I will actually use and enjoy. My ADs appreciate that I am not a flipper and have been pretty good with getting me the pieces that I request. |

I'd only get the 5524 if the 5522A is a safe queen that you are afraid to wear.
PS -- Go Blue! :)

It’s a JOKE is what it is. Sorry — I just call it like I see it. I am just glad I have all the references I want / need for now....an AD (and friend for many years- who laughs about the current state with me)....and other hobbies.
