2018 DSSD (126660) Being Called, "BLUE WHALE", Like The Moniker?
As someone who has an incoming 126660 from the lower 48 it was interesting to read and hear the DSSD Blue Dial referred to as the BLUE WHALE.
Is that wide spread, is it new to the 2018 126660? I have not seen it on TRF even once. I like it. There are numerous intersections: Blue Whale Blue Dial. Water Themed. And of course the Largest Animal for the Largest Rolex. I fully respect some people's indignation over using any nicknames for any Rolex - not hashing that out here please. |

I'd set Ahab on that nickname.

I'm going to be totally honest, the only time I've seen it is when you type it.

I am confused by this post. You said you read about the Deep Blue dial being called the Blue Whale but now you say you've only seen it when you call it that...did you read about in one of your own posts?

When I was at an AD in Nashville area early last Spring I saw it, heard it, but thought nothing of it as that watch never has had my interest. That eventually changed with the 126660 release. Last Thursday in Huntsville, Alabama I put money down for an incoming 126660 at Loring's Jewelers and I became interested in the former whale reference but I can't find it again. I have Googled "Blue Whale Rolex" and find no mention of the nickname, so I posted the question as I like that reference. But if it is obscure, it is not much of a reference.

Your thread title asks if we like the moniker but then you say you don't want to hash out people's indignation over using nicknames.
You also ask if we've ever seen it used before, which we haven't until just now, and you've already gone ahead and called it this in your profile. It sounds more like you're trying to start yet another nickname trend. |

Sorry. I am just excited and obsessing a little about a new Rolex and remembered previously seeing this when Sky-Dweller hunting and adopted it. Not trying to start anything and while it is just social media, I resent a little the couple of implications of falsely saying one thing to do another.
A moniker to me is just an informal noun. Some people think Rolex nicknames are inappropriate in general and I didn't want to argue that. I wanted to simply discuss this nickname for this watch. Don't know why my question has put me on the defensive here. Sorry for any misperceptions. I'll log back on when the watch arrives up here in Alaska unless I'm able to source the nickname. Peace. |

And now you're offended that others don't like the name? If you aren't trying to start a trend then why take it so personally?
You asked if we like the moniker despite knowing how poorly nicknames go over here. What did you expect? |

This has about as much chance of sticking as “Polyphemus” did last year by that Italian bookwriter on instagram with the SD50th/Sd43. None what so ever.

Honestly I think the nickname posts and responses are about the best thing going on TRF right now. Cracks me up.

Not a fan of the nicknames whatsoever, but I think it's better than being referred to as a "smurf"

Let's call it the "Purple Porpoise" just so no one ever calls it anything but its proper name.

The thing I love best about Rolex nicknames is now much it irritates some people. Fun to observe.
