Hello!

Since I'm on vacation, and playing WoW gets boring after while, I find myself searching and looking thru many Rolex related website, and I found one trend...

TT Daytona is selling close to the price of SS Daytona...

Why is that? TT is much more expensive right? I don't know the latest MSRP for TT vs SS, but I remember seeing about 30K difference.

Is it because of the damand for SS is so high ?? If that's the case, why is SS so desireble?

I thought the SS was so desireble since it was the cheapest Daytona, but with TT being so close in price, wouldn't it make sense to buy TT?

I understand that TT is not something everyone likes, maybe that's what the problem is? The look ???

BTW, this trend actually more severe in Japan... grey marketers are selling TT for LESS than SS.....

I just wanted to hear your opinion... I am actually thinking of getting Daytona before going back home (to use my dollars...) and I wouldn't mind the look of TT, but if it loses market value so much so quick.... hmmmm....

In my opinion, you would not lose out in terms of value with a TT, if purchased in the grey market. If you purchased new then you would take the hit on depreciation more than what a SS would.

I would get the one you like and don't worry about value/depreciation/appreciation...

The SS Daytona market has softened and it is not commanding the premium that it used to.

So, do you think TT price will hold at current point, and SS will drop?

I was just curious about what was so magical about SS... I've always thought it was the 'entry price' that made it so desireble... but for the same price, wouldn't you wanna get TT ????

I guess it's all about demand/supply... Just can't seem to understand why TT has so much less demand....

coming from someone that bought a SS over a TT. I just think the TT looks ugly and wanted the look of SS. I'm fairly certain a lot of other people feel similar to me about that. I don't think the actual gold content in the watch is worth that much either. Just a huge markup in price because it's "gold". LIke take the gold daytonas that retail for 30k and routinely sell for 22-23.

The S/S Daytona has traditionally been hard to find and so it used to command a premium. A second reason is that in the world of collectors, S/S watches are generally in greater demand - stainless steel Lange & Sohne watches or Pateks are very rare and are very highly coveted. A third possible reason is that gold is a soft metal and highly prone to scratches.

The production run of SS Daytona compared to TT is smaller thus creating a more scarcer model. Whilst the resale of the SS Daytona has waned somewhat it does not honestly mean that the price has to drop accordingly. It merely is harder to find buyers at a premium in the current climate.

Bought my TT M serail daytona brand new last 2007 and sold it this year of dec for a brand new SS M serial daytona. And I never looked back.

It's all about supply and demand as others have said. No way has their ever been a "30K" difference though. Assuming you're referring to USD as you post from TN. Like about $9-10K in SS and another $6k or more retail for TT depending on the dial; some are quite expensive.

If you happen to like TT watches, the TT Daytona is a remarkable deal compared to the SS models. In the GM they often cheaper than SS with the less ornate (yet still better than SS) dials. Rolex keeps the best dial selection for the more expensive models, so the MOP and slate grey might be a bit more costly on the TT, but look awesome to many people.

There isn't enough 18kt gold content, even in a full 18kt model, to warrant the added MSRP, but you're right, the presence of gold can't help but make the watch inherently worth more money.

That SS, for scarcity reasons, does keep demand high though and generally more popular.

Personally it was the look. I prefer all stainless watches with the only exception the TT Sub with blue face. Then there are friends who will only buy TT watches.
