Rolex + Polo =?

Hello all,

I love Polo and have loved it so for a long time. Normally, I take my watch off but, during a discussion with my friend about watches, I've heard Richard Mille made a watch strong enough for Polo?

So I'm wondering, is it possible to wear my Submariner during Polo? What is a general "thing" a watch needs to be Polo-friendly?

I'm also upgrading all Tag and Rolex watches I've had as a teen into Pateks and Langes as times are good. Any Polo-friendly more luxury alternatives? Aquanaut or Nautilus?

Thanks.

I always thought polo players wore Reversos

Yes, if you play polo you should really wear a JLC Reverso. They were designed for it, and were arguably the original "sports watch".

Why would anyone want to wear any watch while playing polo.

There is only one watch good enough to play Polo with and gain instant credit with the Officers of the household cavalry and even Royalty...a very understated watch. Which you have probably never seen. However one that will cause much jubilation and talk during a drink of pimms...a watch that is proven to still work after a game of Polo or even a battle..
The watch you need is:-
A 1980 CWC first issue W10 without the oval known as the CWC FATBOY with an aged patina on the hands and dial..
Who wears such a watch:-

Prince Harry wore the modern day W10 at a wedding.while dressed in top hat and tails.not as good as a CWC..no history.

The watch was issued to Household Cavalry Officers and British Guards Officers who fought in battle and used them for Playing Polo the Watch which your Polo chums will wish they owned..

Must however be worn on an early grey NATO strap and unlike a Rolex it's not an automatic it's a quartz..it is a watch with history.built like a tank and probably the only quartz watch you could wear at a polo foray

the watch given to the British Army Officer. The men who invented the modern game of Polo..the training game for the King's Cavalry ..
The CWC FATBOY a watch with history.build quality and a talking point before and after a fine game of Polo....sometimes history trumps wealth...

you can always wear your Rolex after the cucumber sandwiches while talking to your new Cavalry Officers chums....who will sort there old watches out and Wear them with pride at the next game

Don't bother with anything other than a Reverso for Polo, designed for British Officers playing Polo in the Raj, there is no doubt of its utility and history

How about the ultimate solution of just wearing a watch and not playing polo?

I love this, every day is a school day to learn something new.

However,

As the OP mentions Richard Mille, AP, Lange, Patek and "other more luxury alternatives" I think that highlights that its more about prestige and one upmanship than any tradition for the polo set.

My hotel looks on to the Polo Club here in the part of Africa I'm currently working, and I've experianced the polo set up close and personal every weekend during the season as a result, they do love to party afterwards. If there is a way of flashing cash, its polo, and none of the polo set here would give a £3k fatboy a second glance if the opportunity to wear a £50k Mille was there to show off instead. Its all about perceptions as opposed to practicalities or tradition.

Kind of wondering...if you’re getting rid of/upgrading your Rolex and Tag watches, why you’re asking if a Submariner can be worn?
Why you’re not on a Richard Mille forum, a Patek forum, or a Langes forum?? Since you’re looking at these “luxury alternatives” other than Rolex

I dont wear a watch while playing, and neither do most people. Having said that I have a friend who plays every day and he never takes his gmtC off. Every time i see it i wonder how the watch manages to hold up

More specifically... Yachtmaster + Polo = YOLO. Maybe that's the answer.
