Smart pen

Has anyone tried/used Livescribe smart pen? http://www.livescribe.com
Thinking of getting one for the kid. He starts uni soon.

I'm also thinking of getting one for myself, it will be fun watching people's reaction in a meeting as everything said will be minuted

That is definitely an interesting concept.
I wonder if lawyers would be allowed to use them in court?
It's a pity the pen doesn't do the writing out of the recorded messages for you, like voice recognition writing
Anyway, it seems like an interesting concept, just not sure how well it will work in practical terms

It's not bad. The down sides would be that you need special paper for it and that it doesn't understand cursive. Since I take notes mostly in cursive, I'm having to make some adjustments.

Fancy speak for handwriting.

I've never heard anybody in Canada call it cursive, either.

I was looking at getting one of these pens. I take many notes and think this would be great (at least in theory). Since the original post has anyone used one?

Well, my son uses it for his uni work. It's quite useful indeed, provided you do take notes during lectures, since it can synchronise the recorded lecture (sounds only, no video) to the point where you write on the paper. If you daydream and don't take notes, then it's just a recorded sounds, which can be quite difficult to follow.

Overall it is useful, and really depends on how deligent you are in taking notes.

I received a livescribe pen for Christmas. Its really neat you can put programs on the pen such as dictionary , or translator.

the only downside to the pen is that you have to use a specific kind of paper. You can print out that paper from a home printer but i haven't tried that out yet. i have the package of 4 note books that were 20 bucks from staples.

its great haven't tried it out in the field yet. i start school on 18th.

the voice recorder is great also but i think you have to have the headphones on when recording.

Does your son print his own paper or use the special notebooks?

We bought the pads and refills in bulk online. The refills are tiny and don't hold much ink though.
