Columbus AD visit

The day after Christmas I stopped in at the "Diamond Cellar" of Easton to peruse their Rolex stock. This is the subsidiary store, the flagship being a few miles away. In the case they had two Stainless GMTC's and a black dial Milgaus. No discount on the Milgaus but the associate said she might me able to get me 10% on the GMTC. Not being in the market I did not have her pursue it. They also had a steel and gold GMTC and an 18k model which is a very impressive gold ingot indeed. I wanted to check out a Deep Sea or a 41 MM Daydate but no luck. I also stopped at the new Tiffany Store which was nearly empty of happy shoppers and very austere. T&Co apparently now offers no brand name swiss watches for sale, only a bunch of quality but un-interesting designer models. I long for my Tiffany dialed GMT purchased by me on 5th ave about 30 years ago and squandered long ago. I haven't been on the forum much lately. What happened to Bo? I always thought his input was very valuable.

I had the triangle piece of lume fall of the second hour hand of my GMT. They replaced it while I waited. Very happy I did not have to send it off and have a long wait. This would have been around 1986

The Diamond Celler at Easton can get VERY pushy. Just depends on who you get really.

Regards from Granville Ohio,

J.

I was in the Tiffany store right before Christmas. See what you mean. I usually check out The Cellar but didn't this time. Anybody within an hours drive of Columbus should check out Dunkin's in Mansfield. Very good to deal with. Granville is a beautiful town. We used to stay at the Inn once a year and eat in their restaurant. Walk around the campus a bit and sit and eat ice cream at the new shop downtown. Nice time!

I was in a Chicago Tiffany store and "austere" is the perfect word for what I experienced. I know they're selling Pateks (and discounting them, as well - which they do not do with their own stock) but if you're in a store that doesn't carry them, it sure looks, well....austere.

Your right Mike, the Sawmill Diamond Cellar is the best bet in Columbus for inclusive stock. Their help is generally friendly and informed.. Years ago I bought a Patek 5107R Calatrava from the store when it was on Bethel or Henderson. I'm going there next wk to have a ring repaired. Will check for a look at the DD 41MM then. Last time I was there, many of their sales associates were wearing 44 MM Panerais. No doubt as a lure for potential buyers. I bought A DD in the late 60's from Argo & Lehne downtown on High St. I was told they may still be around in some form or other. haven't been back in Columbus long.. Favorite Rolex store used to be The Peacock in Chicago attatched to the Palmer house. That's where I passed up the two Seadwellers in their very first configuration..you know....like the ones that went for a gazillion at the NYC auction?!!
