Whichever is in the best condition. In all seriousness, those error dials are often bumped up in price.

I’d maybe look and find a nice one in the 2002-2005 range and save a couple of quid.

Let's get things perfectly straight there are no such thing as error dial 16710 all it is a simple font change. The so called error dial GMT only exists in internet fantasy island, and anyone paying extra must be sixpence short of a shilling.Always buy the watch with best condition/price and whether any service history.

Stick to buying the rectangular dial. It would be an error otherwise.

Why would it be an error? Thanks

It was a sarcastic play-on-words.

Either dial would be fine. From what I remember, I prefer the text layout on the rectangular dial better than the stick. I'm not in the "error" camp or put any higher value on stick dials. Rectangular seem more rare anyway.

Edit: Nope, it was the stick that looked better. But, I'd still rather have a 3185 in that watch... and lug holes. Sorry, I'm not much help here.

It's not quite correct to say it's just a font change, the stick dial has slightly thicker hour marker borders which I think suits a 40mm watch better.
Unfortunately for me I couldn't find one and ended up with a choice of regular or rectangular and went for a mint 2006 regular, I didn't want to pay a premium for the rectangular as GMT's are already pretty pricey.

As Padi had mentioned above, go with the best price & condition. That is what I did when I went with mine.

For $3200 OBO you, too, can own the elusive stick.

To me this is madness. I've read about tritium dial 16710s going into RSC and returning with stick dials. Now that's pretty funny.

I would go for best condition and complete set for my money.

In my years of wearing Rolex I don’t put much stock on supposed error or vintage pieces. To me it’s just an old watch which is more likely to break down and lack parts to do a proper repair. To me it’s all hype which I won’t play just like the AD games.

I don't get sometimes why ppl just buy thinking already what value they would get out of it and asking everyone their opinion... either you buy it for YOURSELF and you choose what you want out of it or you just flip them and therefore shouldn't have any emotional value attach to this purchased.

I have owned a GMT II z serial 2006 since 2013. I was recently told I have a rectangle dial. I'm not sure the person who told me is right. Can someone help me out?
