Hi guys,

I noticed from reading that there are a lot of Pen experts on this forum and i couldn't help but ask the question .
I was recently offered a limited edition pen from an AD .. the Montblanc Mahatma Gandhi fountain pen in white gold a limited edition . The AD says the pen is sold out and that this is one of the last few pieces .. i dont collect a lot of pens but am aware that certain ones retain value and are serious collectables ..

I'm Not sure if the pen will hold its value or if its worth considering .. I took at look at it and i love the details the pen has .. Ofcourse he wouldn't open the pen for me to see the nib but i can understand that if a collector wants a pen of this value he/she would want it untouched or sealed ..

Anyways any help, feedback or buying tips with regards to this pen would be greatly appreciated .

If you can get the ink for it as well (bottle or12) you have a win situation.
The ink is selling multiple times more than retail.
The pen itself is desired but not that hot in my opinion.

Fountain pens make lousy investments.

I am new to the world of luxury writing instruments, so I have little to add in providing knowledgeable feedback to your specific question. It doesn't appear there are any true indicators on what the value of the pen will be over time, until the time has passed. Luxury items as an investment is such a crap shoot because the collectibility and desirability is tied to emotion and not economics. My strategy with "luxury" and limited edition fountain pens is to consider them, at best, as a possible store of value with little to no upside; providing I can get into them for 20-40% below retail. However, to avoid the stress of wondering if I made a good "investment", I decided to just buy what I like and will enjoy. Me, personally, I would consider buying it's weight in gold bullion if looking to invest $25K into precious metal... or maybe a gold Rolex. Good luck with whatever you decide.
