Incoming 116610LN & AD shenanigans

Yesterday I received a call from a Florida AD. I had been searching for Professional series watches and was on their call list. Well I got the call that they had a new sub with date in and they wanted to know if I wanted it. Well I told them I would take it. Well on the way I get another call from them wanting to know how soon I would be there and that there were other clients interested in the watch and that the first one who got to the store would get the watch. Well the dealer is an hour and fifteen minutes drive so of course I questioned her and asked what if someone got there before me she said they would sell it to the first person who walked in the door. I said okay let me put down a deposit until I get there, she said they would not do that. I said okay I'm trying to get there asap. Well I made it to the dealer and I was the first one there so I got the watch. The next surprise was that she told me all the stickers had to be removed from the watch. Of course I argued about that to no avail. She said it was per Rolex. I was not happy but I did manage to get them to let me keep the shipping coffin and the bezel protector but they removed all the stickers. I'm going to keep this one so the stickers didn't matter to me. I managed to talk them out of a Rolex gift a nice Rolex hat. I guess what irks me about this is that the sales process they should get the first person on the list the option to approve or decline the watch and give them an opportunity to pickup the watch. The way they went about it was wrong in my opinion. They were greedy to get rid of the watch asap. Why??? even if they put it in the case to sell that watch is going to sell right away regardless. Removing the stickers doesn't stop someone from flipping the watch.

Regarding stickers, that's standard at any Rolex AD. You're not getting out of there with them.

Regarding the process, let it be the story of how you obtained your watch. Congrats are in order. It's a great piece - wear it in good health!

So, you got the watch in the end, and you are upset at them having to remove stickers? Were you planning on wearing the watch with them?

It's SOP now for stickers to be off. I now ask if I can remove them in shop myself, and ADs have always been fine with that.

It’s kinda low to make someone drive an hour and half to potentially find the watch sold to another guy because he simply walked in 2 minutes earlier!
I’ve had my AD give me a couple of days to decide/pay for a watch. Most people can’t afgord to just drop whatever they’re doing and hop in the car to go buy a watch!!
Finally why this game?? It’s not like they will have it sitting there without a buyer!
Again it’s their rules but ADs like that really turn customers away and if we were in a world where every corner store had a ss Daytona, they can’t afford to do business like that!!!
So low!!!

If it was a stainless profession, they didn’t need to get rid of it ASAP for they sell themselves. Also it’s true that you can flip the watch without stickers but I think it’s possible to get more and flip faster with stickers on. Not only that but it shows Rolex the intent that they sold a watch that will be worn by the actual buyer. I was also told that certain AD’s screen their customers to see if they believe the watch will be owned by the purchaser or attempted to be flipped. I think I’m the kind of customer because I actually miss my Rolex when it was at the service center. It’s a damn watch... but it’s my watch!

But the important question is what beshannon asked, how do you like it?

I'm going to keep this one so the stickers didn't matter to me.
Stickers didn't matter but you argued about them to no avail. Hopefully you see the humor in this paradox.

Be happy you got the watch that you wanted and enjoy it. If you didn't like your experience with this AD, shop around. A good AD is worth finding.

It's hard to say what the "new normal" is these days.

Congrats on the watch.

The getting you to rush to get to the AD first was irresponsible and could have been dangerous if you were driving so they deserve a thorough slamming for that, go back and do it so they don't use this on other desperados, the rest is standard stuff.

I'm sure it was the point that since he bought watch, he felt it was his right to peel his own stickers off ect and not have to be told what to do with his watch.

I'd get pissy too but thankfully the shop I use does not strong-arm me into any of that sticker removal and leave a blood sample just to buy a watch BS.

This!!!! And I think it is bad business to make someone rush to the store under the threat of selling a watch out from under them. But each store does it's own thing. My AD always gives me my watches with the stickers intact. They know that for me, it is fun peeling them off once I have gotten my prize home. Enjoy your new watch and wear it in good health!

It's weird to have someone drive that far to maybe get a watch. After all, its a pretty easy sell to the next guy on the list or the next person to walk in. If it were a car, phone, or whatever else I spend my money on, I would have told them to kick rocks. Unfortunately, it's a stainless Rolex so you have to play their game. Removal of stickers is standard now, can't really fault them for that.

Sounds like it all worked out and you get to enjoy a sweet new watch!

Stickers don't matter. I can understand however giving you enough time get to the AD within reason.

The tables have turned. All these abused sales people are now exacting revenge on their tormentors.
You should flip the watch showing the serial number and AD name to get them in trouble.

I had an AD tell me about their race to the dealer program. I was 3hrs out and got the call, told them to find another buyer

Within a week got a call from a different AD, who refused to give me a warranty card on a prior purchase. Told them to find another buyer as well-2 hrs out on that AD

Two weeks later got the call from my third list, from a dealer who had a SD43 appear for me a month before. They told me they would hold it for a day or two on my word. Picked it up a little over an hour later.

The race is a stupid deal closing technique. We enable dealers to treat us this way. I spend my money with a dealer who did not play stupid games.

my AD gave me 48 hrs from the confirmation that I do want the watch via phone call.

You are lucky that they still want to sell to you after you argue to have the stickers on, usually that is a red flag that you are a flipper.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm pleased with the watch though and happy to get it considering how hard these are to obtain.

This is one of the reasons that some AD's just sell references like these to the grey market or to known big clients (whales)....to avoid encounters with the general public entirely.

No arguing over deposits, first come first serve, stickers, gifts....etc. Just sell the watch and never hear a peep about it...depending on the dealer, it's worth it..
