Feellings of Guilt after a purchase?
when you don't have it, you save money anywhere you can so you can buy it,,,,, once you buy it, after a few months, you go "Now what?" ....then you feel guilty tying all that money into watches .....and then you start having second thoughts that ROLEX is not all you thought ... I mean, a good watch but also a lot of hype ....
Do any people who have multiple rolexes, feel this way? ... sort of like a Buyer's Remorse?? I am sure some must because there are always days when you look at you collection and go "what was I think, tying so much cash into these?" and there are other days when you say to yourself "Wow, how lucky I am to have all these!" |

I am sure everyone has gone through it, even some that do not have multiple watches.
It is just one of those things. Sometimes I have felt it when I see people starving in Africa and I've got 10k in watch on my wrist, which would probably feed a whole village for a year????? |

yeah, you know, grass always seems greener on the other side and when you get to that other side, you say "well the side I am coming from wasn't that bad and this side is just as green as the side I left behind ....."
Not that I have turned into some humanitarian or anything or that I would donate my $$ to charity but I miss the feeling when I stared at my bank account and it was big and what I could do with it was anything .... now that the $$ is tied up into rolexes, I miss that feeling ..... |

I think most people have some guilt after any large purchase not just watches

I think most of us has had that feeling.
For me it was a reward to myself for quitting smoking. After 2 years it was reward time. I felt a little crazy paying this much for a watch, but what the hell , a promise is a promise, and if you can't trust your own promises to yourself, then there is no-one in this world you can trust.

Never. I plan out my purchases carefully and I make certain that I have the disposable income available. No regrets.

This is done with disposable income, nothing borrowed ... just money collecting in a TOY account ... so no impact to any household issues, mortgage or anything like that ... not one cent of impact to family and daily affairs ...

Many in the vintage community speak to the "thrill of the hunt". Afterwards there's sometimes a let down. As in any hobby sometimes the "want" is more than the "have".
We are the minority of the watch buying public. For the WIS it's a hobby and a passion. Lot's of emotion there. There are those that have more tied up in a car than many of us in a watch collection. Same with fine firearms and other collectables. I think we all have our own comfort level. There are some pieces I would love to have, but feel the price doesn't justify the addition. |

It gives me a thrill when I'm about to buy......and also a thrill when I'm about to sell.
Both ways, it's a win-win situation!!

Of course, I do feel guilty of having more than one Rolex while member of my family have just one or none.
But I look at my collection as "saving", saving with enjoyments. Of couse there will be a lost but everything have a cost associated to it. Pleasure isn't free... |

feelings of guilt
Sometimes I feel the same way. I will usually trade something in when I make a purchase this way its less money out of pocket.
I also feel that my watches are a hobby and other people have expensive hobbies that they spend money on. In addition I dont smoke or frequent bars on a regular basis. So I put $50 per week in a 5gallon water jug, along with any change I have at the end of each day. I call it my watch fund! Thanks for sharing Tom TTBlack Sub Omega sea master |

No regrets whatsoever. I bought each of my watches to do a specific job.
I bought Rolex because I wanted something that's built to a standard rather than a budget. But that's me all over. I just don't "buy into" the whole disposable-society thing if I can avoid it at all. Mike. |

i have had buyers remorse many times... on many big pieces.. but again.. as long as you buy smart... you should never lose more than say...10% when selling... so technically your "safe" and then you feel better about the pieces... good thing about rolex is they are pretty liquid, i mean... the prices for selling the common pieces are pretty much "set"... all sellers will be around same price.. so you just go under by 50$ and it's sold in a matter of minutes... so one day regret... next day happy,... next day break your hip... next day its gone at only 10% loss and you pay for part of the hospital bill.. so the remedy for me at least since you never know when your going to be upset about a purchase is just to buy each smart. as far as the other guys comment on loafers/etc... if you apply this idea of buying smart.. it can apply to anything... find a good thats very rarely discounted... and find a way to have it discounted and you'll always be safe... you'd be amazed how fast a pair of fine shoes will sell even after they have been worn numerous times.. and other items as well. |

My collection is modest so no, no regrets here. I have to be careful of blowing *all* my liquid on buying and modifying german sports cars. I've been there before and it's a slippery slope.

I don't really feel guilty, but I kind of wish I didn't buy my sub date. It's not the money it cost, so much, as I could have put the money into something more practical, not watch related. The Sub Date dosen't give me the feeling that I get wearing my DD, and sure isn't as atractive looking. I keep my DJ only because it was my first, and worth more to me than I could get for it.
I bought the sub as my every day "beater" watch, but I can't bring myself to let it get beat up, so I really don't wear it often, and I don't want to take the loss selling it. Due to this, mabe on another level, I do feel guilty.

I do love the chase. And there are few short periods of withdraw once the hunt is over but I have a pretty strict criteria that each purchase must fill a certain need. Then, everytime I'm wearing the watch for it's intented purpose I'm happily reminded the purchase was justified. dP

Normally, spending huge amounts of money makes me a train wreck. I'm with Rawhyde pretty much 100% of the time. But I'm not sorry at all I shelled out for Subbie!
What I am sorry for, and this is similar to a lot of posts here, is for NOT buying the 1680 (or was it a 5513?) Rawhyde and I looked at in a pawn shop in 1991. What the $@&& was I thinking??? The guy wanted $1200!!! Ugh...5x appreciation, maybe... Subbie's not going anywhere
