ROLEX PRICES in Japan

Anyone wanting to know current price of Rolex watches in Japan let me know.

Every month I purchase 3 or 4 Japanese Rolex mags with the latest market trends and retail prices for New / Used Rolexes.

I'm not a dealer, just a fan and collector and I don't sell watches.

Cheers from Tokyo

Prices taken from dealer ads in the Jan 2009 issue of ROLEX Magazines:

(Exhange rate is about Yen93 / US$1)

YG Sub Model: 16618 Cal 3135 Year 1990 Yen 1,390,000
Cant find any others for sale.

SS Sub Model: 16610 BNIB Yen488,000 with 3 year warranty, or Yen469,000 with 12 year warranty. (Quark watches Ueno, Tokyo)

SS Model: Other shops selling for more, about Yen 560,000 is average. Used varies big time from store to store.

YG/SS Sub Model: 16613 Yen720,000 used Very good condition.
YG/SS Sub Model: 16613 Yen498,000 used 1988 model. Good condition.
YG/SS with 8P Diamonds Model: 16613SG Yen 728,000 use. Very good condtion

YG/SS (Called combi here) seem to be very common and prices vary from store to store for used watches.

The White Gold with the Blue Bezel Sub comes on the market on and off. Very dear over Yen1,750,000. No many around. Would love to get one.

Watches are ranked as: N = New. S = Unused. A= Very Good condtion B= minor blemishes C= Noticable blemises Q= Antique.

Cheers all

I remember being in Tokyo and thinking that the MSRP prices were really really high. Plenty of shops though, especiallly vintage if memory serves me right. Any idea what a Milgauss GV goes for MSRP and after market BNIB??
Thanks for the price update Imtiaz. Keep posting valuable information my man.

hello,

do you know the price of the GMT IIc?
there are a lot cheaper places than in the magazines. Check out BIC CAMERA. They sell all brand watches, incl. Rolex, IWC, etc etc. you get 10% off if you're a non Japanese resident.
cheers

Hi Philippster

BIC camera, Yodobashi, Sakuraya are all classed as Discount shops but their prices are just a tad below MSRP.

On the other hand, Jacksroad, Quark, Kamekichi, Komehiyo, Satindoll etc. are the real discounters.

In most of the mags, when prices are analysed, you will see these type of store listed as "Super Cheap" stores.

I do shop around and spend hours and hours looking at Rolexes. The second batch of stores are really the best.

The other factor is product knowledge. At BIC, Yodobashi etc, staff are not at all conversant with the watches they are selling. But with the second batch you will find the guys pretty switched on with the latest as well as the antiques.

The GMT iiC prices can be seen from the URL. Like above gibberish on screen but numbers and photos are Ok.

http://kakaku.com/item/51609015718/

Cheapest price for black 116710LN GMT Yen 528,000. BNIB.

Cheers Imtiaz

hi John

Actually there are several others too. All up about 6 or 7 mags every month. Some are broad based and cover all watches. Some are for the better ones like Rolex, Panerai etc. Time Scence, CRONOS, Power Watch, Heros etc. off the top of my head.

Every few months special mags come out focusing on one Rolex model (also covering other Rolexes as the minor component). Deepsea was featured, analysed, taken to bits and photographed and predictions made.

Also every few months one of the regular watch mags will come out with a special issue on price trends for new and used watches. It's interesting to see the graphs showing the past 12 months etc. Good to know.

Unfortunately all this in Japanese. The international aspect / value is zilch.

I have a diary of all the Watch dealers in Tokyo. More than 100 small shops. Near my home alone there are more than 15.

Japanese do love their watches. Scary part is Love today hate tomorrow and the prices drop like a rock

Cheers

It's just a gimmick to get you into the store. But they do honor the warranty.

you end up paying for this, nothing is free. They used to have a 20 year warranty which included 3 free services + pay for any parts.

Satin Doll uses the long warranty.

Personally I am quite happy with the 1 year I get from my dealers. Never had a problem yet

Thanks for the nice words, I would love to have prices from HK etc. but no such luck.

The Milgauss GV MSRP is very hazy. Basically Rolex Japan does not have stock. I need to check this out. Probably around Yen900,000 if my memory is correct.

There is an interesting site from where I get comparative pricing. I am sending you the URL. When you go to the site the text will be gibberish since it's Japanese fonts that your PC cannot handle, but you can see the Prices, model number and the photos.

The GV is here: http://kakaku.com/item/51609016637/

The cheapest, BNIB is Yen655,000. Several other stores are pretty close.

My next purchase target, when my wife goes back to Sydney. LOL

Most good (large) book stores sell them. Good place to check is in the book stores located in shopping centres, they seem to stock the most. Check the MEN's Section near the Cars and Bike books.

The book store on 7 & 8F of Mitsukoshi in Shinjuku has an amazing collection.

Before you buy, check the date of publication on them back spline. Don't get caught with old stock.

Cheers

Note Resale is not the same as in the UK. These are directly imported watches by-passing Rolex Japan. The Yen655,000 is for such a watch.

Got the MSRP: (Mkt is direct import by the dealers by passing Rolex Japan)

MSRP Rolex Japan (No stock) Sorry Yen 900,000 was my error.

116400GV model Yen724,500 (Mkt Yen655,000 ~)

116400 Black Yen682,500 (Mkt Yen488,000 ~)

116400 White Yen682,500 (Mkt Yen458,000 ~)

I have no idea what the second hand market is like in Japan other than what
you so kindly provided for us, but from a quick "number crunching"
I have to say that the prices here are lower...

YG Sub Model: 16618 Cal 3135 Year 1990 Yen 1,390,000
An 18k Gold Submariner from 1990 would sell here for around 10.000
dollars or Yen 930.000

YG/SS Sub Model: 16613 Yen720,000 used Very good condition.
A nice two tone 16613 would sell here for around 465.000Y or
$5,000 dollars

YG/SS Sub Model: 16613 Yen498,000 used 1988 model. Good condition.
We are not getting any closer here either...372.000Y or $4,000 dollars

YG/SS with 8P Diamonds Model: 16613SG Yen 728,000 used
The 16613serti dial Submariner used here would sell for 540.000Y or $5800

Did I just save you all the cost of a trip to Japan..???.ha ha ha ha ..

Watch Mags in Japan: All have a heavy emphasis on Rolex

Power Watch - Every two months
Cronos - Every two months

Heroes - Every month
Watch Beat - Every month
Time Scene - Every month
Begin - Every month
Ude Tokei O (Wristwatch King) Every month
Ude Tokei O - Rolex special mags - Every January
Watch Fan - Summer & Winter
Bukasha Mook -Twice a year
Real Rolex - First Issue Jan. 2009 Not sure of the frequency

There are a few other mags, which target high end fashion goods and devote 25% to watches. Just too many to list.

All publications are in Japanese only. Most carry a lot of ads for new and used watches.

Thanks mate, you have made my day. Sigh, I am doomed. I will be here for the next 5 to 6 years. The only consolation is Japanese prices are much cheaper than in Australia - which Home to me.

I may have to visit Boston on business this spring. Will make sure I get some store names from you before I go.

Need (actually want not need) a Milgauss GV and a white Dayton 116250.

Thanks for the prices, I am sobbing all the way to the bank.

What are you up to that has you in Japan for so long I was surprised at the price of Rolex in Japan, a couple of months ago I was in Yodobashi-Akiba (which for people who don't know is the most amazing electronic store ever, that sells everything even non-electronics ), and they had both Black and White SS Daytona for just over 1.6 million JPY, which I think is obviously a mark up, but everything else was more expensive than in Canada, too. I guess a lot of people pay it, though, no shortage of Rolex watches in Shinjuku Station (I stay / live nearby when in the Country), or on the Yamanote Line during rush hour.
