It's good to be us.
I stopped wearing my ss/black-dial Daytona as my daily wear watch about a year ago because I couldn't see the hands any more without putting on my reading glasses. I switched to my ss/gold Submariner. A minute ago, while getting something from my bedroom I glanced at the watch winder on my dresser and took note of what the time was on the Daytona that spent the past year in the winder . (And yeah, I had my reading glasses on) I then glanced down at the submariner and time on both watches was exactly the same...And people wonder why we love our Rolexes.

This has been my concern with a Daytona also - legibility. To be fair, the only example I've had on my wrist had a meteorite dial.

I love the Daytona, especially the solid rose gold with chocolate dial and Arabic numbers, but in lower light, basically anywhere inside, I could barely see any of the hands and not at all on the sub dials. Alas, it could not remain in the stable even though it was a great looking watch. I at least want to be able to see the time on a watch that pricey.

Which TT Sub Date you have? The blue one, with gold markings, isn't more legible than the white paint markers (but looks perfect this way )

Unfortunately, that's what happens as we get older.
Now when I shop for watches, my first concern is will I be able to see the hands/dial clearly without my reading glasses - if no, then no deal. My most recent watch purchase (still waiting for delivery) is the new Tudor 1926 - Blue hands and numbers against a white dial. Should be no problem with that high contrast set up.

Amazing. That's what I love most about mechanical watches, and Rolex in particular.
The fact that a spring and gears can keep time that accurately just blows my mind. Even with clocks all around us, I take great satisfaction knowing my Rolex does it the old school way. |
