Daydate 40 which metal?

I am saving up for my ultimate grail watch Daydate 40 to conclude my small collection of Rolex watches. I love the blue dial white gold but it’s too close to stainless steel metal. Then rose gold and yellow gold both have it own appeal and class. My question is which PM would you choose and why? I am very curious of how you processsing your thoughts when purchasing such an expensive item. TIA TRF.

My grail Day Date is also WG, Blue dial. Doesn't matter to me if it has a similar appearance to SS. In fact that keeps it under the radar. I personally don't like the YG watch look and could never afford the PT version.

RG, it's a bit more modest compared to the YG

If your only going to have a single DD40 - get the YG.

Its iconic precious metal, it will never go out of fashion. I have a feeling long term Rose Gold will not stand the test of time even though I have numerous full RG pieces.

Do you have any other PM watch? If not go YG with silver dial IMO.
If yes then RG and Olive.

I'm partial to WG. It looks and feels incredible and is so very versatile.

But then again, whether it looks like steel or not doesn't concern me, as I wear my watches for myself and not to impress others.

I went with white gold, even though it “might fly” under the radar compared to yellow gold at a distance when its near it has a yellow hue so it does not look at all like steel.
This pic was when i was picking up my DD40
After you see the difference, you cant unsee it

Platinum rules but way too heavy for my liking.
YG is sweet and classic but I prefer the rose gold.

I like all versions expect for platinum. If I had to choose, I would go YG because it’s such an iconic look.

I’m going to get a WG with black dial when the time comes. I have other PM Rolexes. I prefer the WG DD40 because I can wear it at work without creating too much drama. People can say what they want about an All Gold Rolex, but the fact is an All Gold Rolex stands out BIG TIME! Not that I mind in every situation, but I do prefer my WG BLRO and RG YM when I’m at work.

Also, once you’ve worn a WG Rolex, you will see it’s nowhere near a SS model.

I love the WG DD40, and the dial combos are great — blue, green, dark rhodium. All stunning. I tried on a YG DD 40 and it felt like too much. If I go YG, it’ll be the DD 36.

Love the WG. Love the versatility. I own the WG, black dial, with the baguette markers. It's a stunning piece.

Exactly my sentiments on WG ...and the blue or green dial are fantastic!

Agree..yes... if only one DD or PM....I’d go YG. Especially with the DD...although I’m biased, it was my first choice in a DD. So iconic!
Good luck! All great choices

I would go WG or PT. I love the color of both the WG and PT. But I may prefer the warmth of the WG color and the fluted bezel. I could never wear rose or yellow gold, it is too flashy for me. I prefer the stealth wealth look. Staying under the radar, high class, low flash.

I’m all over the map on this one.

I used to think platinum was the way to go ... love the glacier dial and deconstructed Romans on the D40

I also LOVE the WG Olive dial. The flutted bezel is kind of a hallmark of the model.

Lately I think YG with champagne or silver dial is the most iconic looking DD

So, perhaps you need these three

WG has a very subtle tone. When you first get it you think it looks like ss. Overtime you realize the warmer tone more often. If you rotate it with a ss watch, you’ll really notice the difference. But it is a subtle metal.

For the dd40 it would be a yg with silver romans, platinum, or rg with brown dial. I’d want some flash with it.

While I do like YG and RG as well, I always felt they don't carry the complexity (not referring to class, nor elegance, nor prestige, etc) as WG does.

What do I mean? Unlike YG and RG, WG keeps the other person guessing. It's messing with their heads. I can tell they're struggling with, "Is it a steel watch? Why the %$&@ is it so shiny? What is that other hue coming through?". No, I'm not a sadist. It does it to me as well, even though I know for a fact it's a gold watch.

So if you like a quick burn and let everyone, including yourself assert that its a gold watch, go for YG or RG.

But if you prefer the slow burn effect like I do, you just can't beat WG!

I'd vote platinum if there was a fluted bezel. Since not....WG.
