Got the call.....

So after only about 2 months from the date of my request for my Sub 116610LN, it arrives at my favorite AD.

Having purchased over 10 Rolex models I always avoided the Sub-C Date because, "Everyone has one". Well at the end of the day there is clearly a reason for that. It's because it's about the best all around Rolex model out there.

I got a SD43 Red about 4 months ago. I tried it on at the AD's store, noted my skeleton wrists were too small for it, but couldn't turn it down. It's beautiful. So straight the the safe deposit box it went.

Now that I have my Sub and its 40mm size is perfect for my small wrists, comes the question. Do I let the mint SD43 go to a worthy TRF member that can pull off the size and would love it way more than me, or do I hold it for the long term investment? Or perhaps my daughter's husband will wear it some day? I don't know.

Knowing the 40mm has always been the size for me I'm already salivating for the next piece on the hit-list.....likely a GMT Rootbeer, or Rhodium Yachty.

I submit to you my agonizing 1st-World problem.....keep it or let it go?

It's hard to speculate how much money you will make or when you will come out ahead. 10 years? 5 years? Plus likely need to service it to sell it if it doesn't get wound up every now and then which will eat into your profits.

I guess I'm just not the scalper type. Seems like money held up that I could clearly use for something else (like a vacation, etc.).

I'd keep it, but not as an investment.
Either you grow your wrists a bit and enjoy it for yourself or you get a kick out of watching a family member enjoy it.

For me let it go for sure. I only keep those that I like to wear, in rotation. Better to replace with one that you’d wear. Even if it’s for your daughter’s husband.

If your not wearing it then let it go... But theres no way I'm getting a 6 digit Sub over a SD43

Sadly I've outlived my favorite AD and the 10 watches have been collected over a 20+ year period. Those of you that remember James in El Paso.....he and his wife finally retired and closed up shop several years ago. A true gentleman. I've also moved several times since then and have had to start a new relationship with an AD I've only bought two watches from. To their credit they are also exceptional. So there's the short story, long.

Fabrice M..... Awesome reply!!! There are days I wished I had done just that.
The 43 was marched slowly to the UPS store today and put on a plane to its new home. No financial damage, but a small regret.....that my wrists are small.

Interesting that the Sub was smaller on. For me the 43 us much better in my small wriste but it’s just too tall.

I agree, if you are not going to wear it i do not see a reason for keeping it.

Why keep a watch you won’t wear? It’s not an investment, it’s speculation. Give it away as a gift or sell it, but it deserves to be on someone’s wrist!

I don't see a need for a Submariner and a Sea-Dweller in the same collection (especially since they are the same color). I could make an argument for an LV and Sea-Dweller for obvious reasons.

At the same time, some people just collect divers and want to have every iteration of every diver that Rolex makes. You don't seem like that kind of person, so I'd let it go and use the funds to finance something else. Even if you don't need or want something else, I think it's kind of silly to let the money the reference is worth sit in a safety deposit box. I am in the camp that modern Rolex watches aren't investments.
