Replacement back
I'm thinking about selling my circa 1992 16713 GMT II. One problem though, I have the back engraved when I bought it. How much can I expect to pay for a replacement? And where would I best look for one?

I would contact the Rolex service center to get a price.

I’m getting it serviced soon, I’ll enquire. Watchmakers inscribe their initials when they do work, right? I suppose a new back would affect the value.

I dont think engraving as a rule is that deep. I think it can just be sanded away and made to look like new again.

I would leave it alone. I don't think it will impact the value much, if at all.

People seem to make a big fuss over engraved backs. Refinishing techniques are very good at removing. And laser welding to fill in and then refinishing after is an even better way. I've done this on old solid gold case backs. Customer was highly satisfied. And of course, a replacement back wasn't even a possibility anyway.
