5170P- Has anyone tried this?

Hey everyone,

So I think I’m ready for a 5170P (FINALLY)! I may sound crazy now....My AD and I were chatting over alternative straps and then he said that technically the Aquanaut strap would fit on the 5170P. Has anyone tried this? Would loveeee to see this hybrid

Really?

Hard to believe since the Aquanaut strap has curved ends and two metal prongs that fit into the case.

Lug width might be the same, but other than that...

No, please no. Banish that thought before it goes any further.

I guess it would look/fit more like a 5066 and not flush like that 5167.

A beautiful, formal and elegant watch in a shotgun wedding with a rubber strap? Not for me, but you will still have my envy for having a 5170P!

It's totally up to you. Personal preference.

My personal opinion is it should stay on leather.

I have to question if he has removed an aquanaut strap before as mentioned they have two sharp metal prongs that seat into the case. You would not want those digging into your beautiful platinum case.

I think it would not look too great on the Aquanaut strap, stick to the alligator OEM.

I have both...no way it would work given the metal prongs and no corresponding holes in the 5170 case. Even if you were to take the prongs off, I don’t think you’d get a good fit - both are 21mm lug widths, but case shape and diameter both differ.

Well that answers everything lol. Will keep the original strap.. will send pictures when I pick it up. Cannot wait; I’ve never had an obsession over a watch until it came to the 5170P. Not my 5712, 5711R, RM030, nothing. This watch is truly magical..
