Have you ever been told " oh...it's fake"
Had someone came over yesterday to look at one of mine stroker shortblock for sale. Noticed he was sporting an Explorer I, casually into the conversation I mentioned "didn't know the Exp I is so attractive"; his reply "oh...it's fake...never could afford a Rolex". That is where I stop.
From the way he look and the car he drove, it was a real Rolex. What funny to me was I didn't said it was an attractive Rolex, but he knew the Exp I was. |

Thats why you cant judge a book by its cover. People have credit on everything these days- especially nice cars.
An interesting story all the same

Some people respond that it's fake because they don't want to deal with having the whole "Rolex conversation" with someone they don't know.
As we all know, some who don't appreciate or know the brand might judge you or make wild assumptions (like a Rolex must cost at least $25,000 or something). Some folks would rather avoid that conversation.

In this part of the world, I would actually be more than happy for someone to approach me and even think about starting up a conversation on Rolex watches.....fake or real!!
No such luck!!

gray dealer once told me my Sub was fake. the bezel rotated both directions, the band was flimsy, the word "patented" was spelled "pateted".
he would not take it as a trade on another watch. kept the watch, gave it to my dad, and later found out it is a Red Sub. am i ever glad i didn't trade that watch. |

If the person in question is sporting a Rolex and i feel the person has some knowledge regarding Rolex i will tell them it is real if asked. If asked by a random person straight away " is that real" then i will tell them its fake just to cut off the conversation. Im not bothered about other peoples opnion's regarding if its fake or real aslong as i know its real and, wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth im happy.

To determine if a Rolex is real, the only SURE way is to open the back and examine the movement. On many of the high grade replicas you simply cannot tell the difference by the outside alone. Even when you open the back you better know what a real Rolex movement looks like, because the fakes often have ROLEX engraved on the rotors.
The majority of fakes have slow beat $2 Chinese movements. The high grade fakes can sport Swiss ETA 28,800 movements with sweeping second hand. Many of the high grade fakes are finished to perfection and are literally so close to an actual Rolex that even experts can get fooled. I've seen them in Bangkok and they are pretty incredible. |

I haven't seen one of these high grade fakes yet, but have seen many fakes, and it's so easy to tell they are fake when I look closely. I'd love to see a high grade fake if anyone has pics.

A high grade fake:
Sorry couldnt resist. With all the "upkeep" she has done I'm sure she is more fake then real these days. Actually I heard she died 5 years ago and this is just a freaky looking robot.

Today, Jessie (Duc_94) and I went to an AD's workshop in Kuwait. I noticed the guy greeting us (super great service) was wearing TT Sub with a funny looking dial. When we asked to have a look at it, the guys happily hands over the watch and points out that it's a fake. No wonder he's in the workshop, not in the showroom. Wearing a fake, competitor's watch. :)

I once had a high school classmate, who is a bit of a snob and somewhat jealous insecure guy, noticed my Rolex, said "it has to be a fake" and asked me to prove it was not. Instead of going through all the motions, I basically told him, "whatever suits you" and continued on my way.
Never have spoken with him since, probably never will. |

To be honest, I will sometimes say my watches are fake also. I dont want to talk about my watches in public sometimes and attract alot of attention.
It can be a neon advertisement "please rob me". In response to the gentleman looking at the small block, "who knows". It has been my experience that people who have the big money dont flaunt or brag. I think his watch was real and he just didnt want to be bothered. Intersting thread |

Asking someone about their Rolex is like hitting on a hot chick at a bar. You either get her or you don't. Well any chick for that matter. When I was dating, if I saw a girl I wanted, I would talk myself up before approaching her, and I would tell myself "50/50, it's 50/50" and that always got me somewhere.
