Reorganization Help Needed.....2 or 3
Gents,
After 4 years of cycling through multiple Rolexes I’ve finally decided on my ultimate Rolex; the Black 42mm Explorer II. In my mind I have the ultimate daily sports watch. I’d really like to add a dress watch now. The ultimate dress watch in my opinion is the white gold 37mm A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Thin. I love everything about it and feel it would be a great compliment to the Explorer II. But for roughly the same price I could add my second favorite Rolex (the Z Blue Milgauss) and my second favorite dress watch (the JLC Master Control). So two or three watches. Thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks! Mike Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Always go with the ones you really want - never the 2nd choice. Explorer II plus the Lange would be an awesome duo

This is the right advice IMO. I personally like that JLC over the Lange so would go for the Milgauss/JLC combo. However, you like the Lange, so you should absolutely go with the Lange. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I tend to wear a lot of button down shirts, but not full on dress shirts. Hence my pull towards the Lange and the JLC. |

I can't imagine really wanting anything else if I had the Explorer II and the Saxonia.....but the Z Blue..... No way I could do the Z Blue and the Lange. Hence my dilema. |

The Lange. Buying exactly what you want will be more satisfying.

Would take the three watch approach.. Yes, i know that the Lange looks great, the movement is made to perfection and pm - but can never seem to justify the cost, considering that you are essentially “only” a getting plain white dial i.e its as basic as it can possibly be. The Jager wins it for me

I thought you had a Zblue already, or is that your brother? As you know l love mine and My Polar too. Congrats on the Expll ! Can't beat that one, keeper for sure. I do prefer the JLC It seems have a more interesting character than the Lange. It actually looks like it has a little vintage charm without playing on that theme. Happy choosing, it seems like your leaning towards the Lange. Btw> do you still have your Ln?

They’re all great watches. For me it would come down to how much I would wear the Lange. If my dress was a bit more casual, I’d probably go with the JLC and Milgauss. But I’d probably not buy them at the same time, spread out the fun.

I think I genuinely like the JLC better than the Lange. The fact that you can then add the milgauss is the icing on the cake. I’d go for that option.

I've actually never had the Z Blue. I had the white Milgauss but sold it to my brother in your neck of the woods (metro Detroit). Unfortunately moved the LN too. I loved it, but I always wanted to wear the Explorer II, so it was hard to justify keeping it. The Explorer II has become and I suspect will always be the foundation of my collection. I do really like the JLC and I agree with your assessment. Definite lean toward the Lange, but I'm going to take my sweet time deciding. |

That's fantastic advice Pauln! If I go that route I will certainly spread them out. It's really a tough call between two outstanding watches or one grail.

I bought the Vc patrimony 38.5 manual small seconds for close that what I think the Lange will sell for. 15ish? This was like 2 years ago. I’d also pick that over the Lange. I like the 1815 or Lange 1 better but I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade.

I’m sure you’ve seen the hodinkee video on best dressed under 20. That basically got me interested in those 3. I’ve had 2/3

For me the Saxonia checks literally every box. PM, classic size, simple, clean, manual wind and most importantly, in my price range. I also love that it has a traditional pin buckle and not a deployant strap. I really prefer no date on a dress watch too. |

Get the Lange. It’s your favorite, and while the cost might prevent you from buying the Milhauss for a few years, you’ll still have the II, which has served you well. You can always play with Seiko divers to sate your acquisition lust until you can get the Z Blue.
I’ve aleays loved your Explorer II pics. |

Lange is almost always the best answer vs. other dress watches IMO.

A lot of love for Lange on here! Thanks for the feedback gents. If anyone has the Saxonia Thin, please share some thoughts and pictures.
I'm going to try to get down to Dallas in the coming weeks to try to see it in person before pulling the trigger. I've had time with all of the other watches in consideration, but never the Lange. I suspect if I'm on the fence that seeing and holding the Lange should make the difference. I can't imagine it disappointing. |
