A year with Rolex, an Interesting Day

A year ago my wife bought me my first Rolex, a YG Blue bezel Submariner. Love the watch. In Febuary of this year I got a TT, white dial Sky Dweller.

By May I wanted a GMT and the search began. I really didn’t expect this process to take very long. I travel a good bit and during my travels I would stop in AD’s all over. From Paris to Waikiki. No Joy. I have visited my local AD a half a dozen times with zero success.

This morning I told my wife how frustrated I had become over my lack of success finding a GMT (black, Batman, or Pepsi). When I departed from the office today I decided what the heck why not stop in on my way home. When I walked in the store was empty. Not a clerk to be seen. I waited for what seemed like hours but was more like 5 minutes. A young man walked out I had not seen before (I do know the watch manager). I asked if he had any stainless GMT’s. He said, we received some watches today, let me check. Honestly I wasn’t very hopeful. Low and behold he comes back with a Batman. He pulls it from the coffin and hands it to me. I try it on. Over the last year I have lost 60 plus pounds and when I last tried on a GMT it didn’t fit and I expected I would need an extra link. Low and behold it fits with the links in the middle.

I then ask, is it for sale? He says he needs to ask the Watch Manager. I tell him I know Cory and have been in several times. He goes back in the rear to call him. He was gone a while. When he returns he tell me, if you want the watch it’s yours. I hand him my credit card and the watch is mine.

I loved the chase, but I am happy I finally made it.

Wow! What a day! Congrats on the watch and great work on the weight loss!! That’s a lot of weight and extremely difficult to do! You must feel great physically.

Congratulations on the watch and weight loss. What an awesome way to congratulate yourself. Keep the links the way they are today - in other words, never add a link. It will keep you motivated to stay in shape. A good friend told me to do that with some suits I bought. It has worked like a charm. Buy something very nice that you can only wear at your current weight or lower. If you want to wear that special item, you will need to stay in a certain shape. It works. Trust me.

Congrats!!! Glad you finally found a GMT and the BLNR is the best of the 3 to me at least. Enjoy it!

That's a great pick-up.

Is your wife OK with this? I think if my wife had bought me a Rolex (which would be a pretty special gift) and I went out and bought myself two more in quick succession she might well feel more than a bit miffed.

Get your point but sounds like the gift watch was a YG Sub, very special and probably less opportunities to wear that vs. daily SS watches? Unless I read that wrong.

My wife bought me a new Datejust 41 Two Tone, champagne dial, fluted, jubilee. Without her asking me, she picked out the exact watch that I would have bought had I got one for myself (minus a Day Date which I can't swing). So as you can imagine, it's pretty special to me, it was for my 40th birthday.

Doesn't mean that I don't now want another one.
I'm sick, I want the same watch but in ss/rose gold, sundust, fluted, jubilee!

Enjoy your watches, nice snag on that Batman! Lucky for me, I don't crave the SS sport models. Yet.

I'm happy for you.

I apologise for asking about something which was none of my business. I was just mentally putting myself in your shoes.

If you're talking about an AD in Louisville I got my BLNR from Cory back in the spring.
