Pepsi 16710
Hey everyone. I don’t know much about watches in general, but especially not about older ones. I just know what I like based on what it looks like. I’m sorry if there have been multiple threads about this, but after doing a quick search I didn’t see what I’m looking for.
I’m really digging the look of the 16710 Pepsi or Coke. But I have no idea what the differences are, of what I should be looking for or what is a red flag. Is there one in particular that I should look for? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks |

Hello, If it's the bezel insert you're talking about there is no difference other than color. It comes in Black also. Be aware that there are aftermarket bezel inserts that are easily obtained. So a quick 'red flag' is to do your research to spot the differences of a genuine bezel vs aftermarket. (many threads in this forum)
Here's a great website talking about the differences between GMT refs gmtmasterhistory dot com (Sorry apparently i cant post links with 5 posts) |

The 16710 was available with any of 3 different bezel inserts, pepsi, coke, or black. I believe the only way to know how it left the factory is with the original warranty papers.

Thanks. After reading my post I realized that I was pretty unclear with what I am asking. I want to find a 16710 and wondering what I should look for and what I should avoid. I'll start by checking out that website.

That would depend on the year and also the country it was sold in.

There’s nothing to “avoid” other than an outright fake. Aftermarket bezel inserts are common and relatively inexpensive to correct. Look for “service parts” like dials, crowns and hands. Purists dislike them, and will lower the price but for most they’re a sign a watch has been cared for. A visit to a service center will usually involve a polish. Again, purists hate it but provided it’s not botched, don’t fret over it too much. Especially if you find one you like at a price you can swallow. The 16710 is a hot reference and prices seem set to continue their upward march... crazy as that may seem. Sent from my cracked, broken hand wound phone. IG @morning_tundra |

Thanks for the advice.
Here is the one I'm looking at. It's priced a little lower than others and I want to make sure I'm not making a bad purchase. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=638348 |

Takuya has a solid reputation here. So if he’s selling it should be all good.

The seller is A+ so you can buy with confidence.
The watch looks fine, albeit it has seen a fair amount of polishing. Also you will be getting just the watch. No box/papers, so price is expected to be on the lower side. |

The box is there, where can papers be obtained if originals are lost? What dollar value do the box and papers hold? $200, $500? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Also, I had luck when calling Rolex (Dallas) when I wanted to see what insert came with my 16710 from the factory. |

You should just be able to quote them the serial number. With regards the watch, looks good to me and price seems pretty fair (at least in U.K. terms). Go for it. It’s my favourite watch by far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I just called them and asked the rep who answered the phone if given a serial number, could she advise about the original insert color. I do not know if the original point of sale (CONUS v. elsewhere) had anything to do with it, but had an answer in less than 3 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That looks like a good example of that reference for that year. Suprised it's not yet sold...

The so called papers are little more than a outdated warranty like you get with most goods today. The main item is the watch condition and the price, then if no service history budget for a full RSC service. Then after service will be almost like new, with service papers or card, with all watch details on,and that paper/card will be a valid two year warranty.
