Daytona, minute hand on subdial misaligned
Hi guys, this is my first post in RL forum. I purchased Daytona 116520 M-series SS at the end of 2008. I just noticed that the minute hand on the subdial is slightly misaligned, as you can see in the picture. It is hard to notice when it is on reset position but when the chrono function is used, it can be seen that the hand does not line up perfectly with the mark on subdial. (I never noticed that until one of my friend pointed it out). I live in Ohio, where there is no official RL service center (only RL dealers/jewelers). So i called RSC in NY. They said I can ship the watch there and they will fix it without any cost. my questions are:
1. Should I fix it or just leave it? 2. Is it safe to ship the watch for service? they recommend using USPS registered mail but when i checked online, u can only insure at most $5000 per package. Any body have experience shipping RL for service to NY, and how long does it take? 3. I talked with the RL authorized dealer (jeweler) near by and he said this is quite common for chrono watch even for RL, is that true? 4. Any body has the same problem (or have seen this kind of problem)? This is my first Chrono watch but not the first RL, and so far I have never seen defect in any RL watch I purchased. Thanks guys, and sorry for such a long post. Any opinion or suggestion would be appreciated |

How can you still keep the stickers on your watch ?
I can't beleave it .... You buy a watch to wear it or to resale ? |

I actually had the same problem with a SS Daytona K serial I got from an AD 5 or 6 years ago. Exact same subdial, with the hand pointing just left of top dead center. Took it to the Rolex SC in Dallas...they had it for 3 weeks and once they returned it to me, there was a scratch on my dial. I was none to happy and had to take it in again to get the dial replaced. All in all, it took about 7 weeks for my brand new SS Daytona to go through the service center in Dallas. I'm hoping that is not the norm, beware.
The question is does it bother you or not? If it does, send it in. If it doesn't, I wouldn't go through the hassle. |

Tough call, the stop seconds hand on my Daytona is off ever so slightly but it really does not bother me, plus I do not want to risk sending it to the RSC and have it come back damaged. I will just wait to fix it when I have it serviced.

No I won't, you should have read my last post. Given up as all people here do is get upset and defend Rolex like their live depends on it, so sad as only a watch after all and more to life than getting upset about someone pointing out a fact. Someone else can have a go and get abuse for their problem in trying to help point out problems, next time you want a dig check out my replies first and get your facts right.

Mr. DoNnY,
I have a "V" Series SS Daytona purchased in Nov. 2008 that has the same problem. The second hand is "OFF" by 1/5 of a second (one click). It does bother me, however I won't have it fixed until I have it serviced in 5-7 years. It surprises me that such a quality and costly timepiece could go through QC with this problem..... Here is a photo of the watch on the 1st day I had it. You can see that the second hand is very slightly off. |

Thanks guy for the response. Now I know my watch is not the only one having this annoying defect. As dardeca, SLS, and Dr.B said, maybe I should just leave it like that and fix it when I have it serviced. Thanks again guys. Appreciated.

Do you mean the 30 minute timer sub-dial ?
It does look slightly off in the giant size photo... is it noticeable at normal use.. The sub hands do not have any particular stops on them so over time they do move around a bit. They are subject to quite a bit of acceleration/deceleration forces when they are reset. Have you run the chrono function a few times and reset the watch to ensure that it will not re-align closer to where you want it ? In any event, if you choose to have it fixed, they have to take the back off, remove the movement from the case, and then take the hand off, rotate it slightly, and reset it. All while looking through a magnifying glass and handling it with tweezers..

Do you use the chronograph function at all?
I personally do not think it's worth the hassle of sending it in over something so minor. |

I am a perfectionist and expect the same from a Rolex. You wouldn't want me to perform surgery and "almost" do a perfect job.
Shame on Rolex......but I still love there watches!!! |

I would wait until the five year or so service to address the issue.
