Incoming First Patek

Well after much deliberation I have finally pulled the trigger on my first Patek! I started browsing the brand about 8months ago with the aim of getting an aquanaut, but I was taken with the 5196R. So last Tuesday I finally closed the deal and now don’t know why I waited so long. The quality and design of this watch are amazing. I can easily see how once you buy one it becomes all you want to collect, very slippery slope. I’ll be in London this weekend does anyone recommend checking out the salon?

And finally a few pics

Congrats! The R is a thing of beauty! My first Patek was a 5196 as well, and shortly followed by a 5167... I love the simpler, uncluttered Patek dials. Of course, the complications are pretty amazing as well.

Lovely watch

And as for the salon visit, go but don't expect to see all the models as they don't have them on show there, but there are plenty of grey dealers close by where you should be able to see them

Congratulations! And yes the salon is worth a look. Very friendly team when I was in there, just don’t expect to see the hot models laying about as mentioned already above.

Congrats. Btw the squeaking noise the strap makes at the lugs will go away. It's a great watch.

Congrats, looks beautiful.

I wonder if you were focused solely on Patek or did you check comparable dress watch offerings from Lange and Vacheron?

When you want a Patek, nothing is comparable.

I also explored the offerings from the two brands you mentioned but they just didn’t fit my eye like the 5196. I found the vc appeared a little larger than I liked and the Lange style of the 1815 or Saxonia just isn’t for me. The classic styling of the 5196 is perfect in my eyes. And also the Patek history and still being privately held all added up to something I wanted to be a part of. I have to say it has beyond exceeded my expectations in every regard.

I am shocked, and very pleased, at how it can be worn more casually. That was one of the big selling points ofnit for me. I’ve also ordered a navy blue strap so I’m excited to see how that works out
