Spotting Rolexes at lunch today
My husband treated me to a nice lunch at a popular downtown Los Angeles restaurant today (although it was only 1/2 full, perhaps due to the economy). Of course, what does any WIS do but check out watches? I was wearing my ladies' SS/platinum Yachtmaster and he was wearing his TT/black face Submariner.
The gentleman at the next table (who was dining alone) was also wearing a TT Sub, but from my angle I couldn't see if it was a blue or black face. I just saw it sideways, noticing the TT Oyster-style bracelet, gold bezel, and cyclops. At the table behind my husband sat a casually dressed young man (in his 20s) with two women (go figure). He was sporting what appeared to be some type of Date Just that I didn't recognize. I could see the SS Oyster-style bracelet, but I quickly saw a gold face and what appeared to be a gold fluted bezel (and of course the cyclops from the angle). One of the women sported a mid-size Yachtmaster in my color combination (SS/platinum). The other diners were either too far away (although I could rule out a Rolex by looking at some men's watch bracelets) or they kept their arms down. So...counting ourselves, there were 6 diners sporting 5 Rolexes at 3 adjoining tables. My lunch tasted great, by the way. |

I just finished having lunch too, and noticed a guy wearing a black stainless steel Submariner Date. In the past month I have also seen 2 gold and steel Submariner Date's, with the black dial.

Nice Restaurant. I'm in Downtown too and have noticed a lot of TT and SS Subs. Gotta love it when you're amongst friends(the watches at least)

What would really be weird is if these people turned out to be fellow TRFers that are on here every night! You never know . . .

Here're my guesses: if it's solid gold Rolexes we're talking about, it'd probably be either somewhere in Italy (maybe Milan because that's their fashion capital) or maybe Hong Kong. If it's the S/S Daytona, then maybe Tokyo. But if it's just Rolex in general, then perhaps Beverly Hills?

Here's my LA report...
Sunday Mass in San Marino I saw a 50ish guy with a solid gold Subbie. Tonight at a Vietnamese Restaurant in Rosemead I spotted a SS DJ Black dial, jubillee bracelet and a waiter with a Panerai on a strap. Last Saturday at Dimsum in Rosemead I saw a DJ black dial and oyster bracelet and a Subbie with date. At COSCO I saw a guy with a beat up Subbie Date: loved the patina! |

Boopie, Cato, Dalton
Is it time to organize an L.A. GTG? Maybe something casual (easy to do) but at a decent place (I'm betting that we all enjoy good food and drink)?
Shall I start a thread? |

By all means Mark, do! There has got to be a lot of TRFers in LA, and I for one would gladly make the trip up for an event with my fellow Wis!

Awesome thread, I try to look at people's wrists all the time. Last time I was flying First Class and I saw a man in mid thirties raise his hand to change his air conditioning direction. I then saw the oyster band and the black bezel. I knew it was some type of Rolex but it sure does feel good to just notice things like that.

I think you are suffering from a syndrome where you have seen so many Rolexes and are that in love with them, you keep noticing others with Rolexes too lol. You are just hoping they are rolexes to feed your need :D

I'm always checking out others wrists to see what Rolex they have. Drives my girlfriend crazy!
On a side note, as a newbie to TRF, I've pretty much figured out most the acronyms used, but one still stumps me, and when you tell what it means, I'll probably feel like a complete moron, but what's a "WIS"? Go easy on me guys! |

I just came back from Disneyland in California; I was amazed at the amount of Rolex wearers in the parks.
Jubilee bands beat out Oyster 2 to 1 I'd say.

Great lunch :)
Here in Denmark it is not that common, the only one I've seen wearing a Rolex is my AD
