Well today I came across a guy who has an Explorer II with the white face. Here is the info he gave me on it. "OK the style # is 16570, Serial # is Z715***, and Bracelet # is 78790. I checked on here and on some other site to do my own research before asking and it looks like everything matches up. I found that the Z is early 2006-new, and he told me he received it last year as a gift from work. He was in the car industry and won it as a salesmen of the year award. The only thing I dont like is that on the back of the case it has an H on it. He told me they had them engraved with the companies logo on it. He said he took it to a local guy and he said good news is it isnt deep and it can be removed for 100.00 dollars. What do you guys know about this process and is this a good idea? He states the engraving is very shallow on the watch. He has the box and paperwork on the watch. He is asking 2850.00 for the watch, is this a good deal and is this worth picking up? I know a purchase like this is a personal preference but I didnt know if I would be stupid not to pick this up. I am really after a GMT but this seemed like a good deal. Thanks for any thought and suggestions you guys might have for me.

It's a fair deal but with that amount of scratches on the bracelet and the caseback being engraved, you can try to get him to knock off some more. I know if you get it serviced it will take the scratches out. I have never heard of a cheap service either.

This is just my opinion but I am sure someone will chime in.....

There are heaps of Explorer 2's available on the 2nd hand market,especially Ebay. They don't command the price of the Sub's or GMT's 2nd hand. That does seem like a good price though.

How well do you know the guy I guess is the question?

You could get a new caseback from Rolex for not much more than $100 when the watch has its first service in a few years. If genuine it's a bargain.

I will also find out how much it costs to get the bracelet done. You're looking at $2950 for the watch and taking out what's engraved. Factor in the cost of it getting serviced...that would be your total for the watch...compare that to mint condition ones and you should know whether to buy it or not.

there is no major damage that can't be corrected at an RSC or by a qualified jeweler. If you check around, that price is substantially below comps on the market currently. As for the "H" logo, who will see it besides you?? Perhaps you could leave it as is unless/until you decide to sell it and then address the issue.

Routine service is about $550 including polishing.

MCK I know you don't want to miss out on an oportunity to get a Rolex and one that appears to be reasonably priced. However you said you wanted a GMT. it seems to me that if that is what you really want then you should wait until you find it rather than go with this just because it seems like a "bargain".

You may grow to love it but you may not. You will therefore end up upgrading to the GMT and will not be able to recoup the full price of the Explorer II plus all the hassle.

IMHO therefore let this pass and wait for your GMT

It's a good price but what difference does it make? You don't want that watch; you want a GMT-Master.

I've seen PLENTY of good deals lately but they are mostly on watches I don't want.

I say hold out for a good deal on a GMT-Master.

That is a very good price for a Z series Explorer II. I would've jumped on it if I had the chance. I found my Z series Explorer II in mint condition for $4,000. As for the engraving, I would just have a jeweler buff it out. When I first got into Rolex watches, I was in love with the Submariner/GMT Master II. Later, I realized I'm not much of a diver nor do I travel like that to track three time zones. Explorer II is a excellent sports watch that is very underrated. Good luck in choosing your watch!

Hey thanks guys for the info and thoughts on the watch. I do like the watch, but like I said, I really want a GMT. I guess I will see what is lowest price for the watch is an go from there. I guess you cant have to many watches. Thanks for the help and suggestions, I will keep you posted.

I agree with the others who have said to wait for a GMT! Don't go for the Explorer 2 if it's not what you want...you'll lose $$$ in the end one way or another.

As others have said, get the Rolex you want. However, I would not take anything for my white dial EXP II. To me, it is one of the classiest of all the Rolex models. Cheers, Bill P.

But hold the piece you WANT mate.....

There are lots of cheap deals around, but its the 'yes, you are the one!' feel when you look at your wrist that made it all worthwhile... Me wear polar, but think the GMT is your friend..

Why not get the Exp II, especially if you can get a good deal. Have the case back buffed or replaced as some others have suggested. Then you you save a little more, sell the EXP II for what you payed and buy the GMT II. There, you now have a plan.
