Scratches appear magically

I don’t understand how this side of a watch gets scratched.

All my watches have scratches they are. But this side is never bumped against anything, never gets desk diving. I really don’t understand what makes these scratch is magically appear on all my watches

Snap on the sleeve of a jacket can do that.

I think those type of scratches happen when you pull your arm back out of something like a drawer or shelf. It could also be something sharp inside the cuffs of your coat. I've had close calls too when releasing the seal belt buckle over and it passes over the left wrist (at least for us in North America). Only solution is to wrap your wrist in bubble back each day...ha! Cheers!

Some jackets with snaps on sleeves also have exposed metal backing rivets inside the sleeve that can play Hell on watches!

Jean jackets are big scratch source because of brass rivets, same with jeans.

I am considering sewing a cloth patch over the metal river back inside my left cuff on my jean jacket.

This. My watch is almost always covered by my sleeve and it still gets fine scratches. I never understood why until someone mentioned fabrics can do it.

I stay away from any and all shirts , jackets , coats and
belts or jeans with metal rivets/buttons/snaps or cuff links...
Basically anything with metal coming even close to my
watch case or bracelet is a no no...

I put small felt pads on the inside metal snaps on my winter jackets cuffs. I have been doing this for decades and it works.

No jackets with zips or press studs (English). And always use my other hand to push my change/keys up in my pant pocket to allow safe access with my watch hand. Probably looks ridiculous but my watches have faired better since I started doing it. Women's ring-clad claws, purses etc are also something I try to keep situational awareness of. A drunken chick can stagger into an oncoming bus or something next time.

Had a girlfriend wear my sub for a few hours , didn’t realize she had a gemstone bracelet on the same wrist...watch was seriously damaged in the same place.

From new it looked like ten years old in just a night.

Synthetic fabrics do that easily.

Dirt and dust that get on a cleaning cloth can cause those type of marks also if you are not careful.

Oh yea, I know Cape Cod would take it out... and light polishing can easily buff it all away. I don't mind scratches on my watches, I actually LIKE them. Only after few scratches here and there can I wear my watches and enjoy them without being all worried about them.

Just like a new car, becomes a concern until it has gotten broken in with slight imperfections, then you can use it fully and enjoy it.

So I don't really MIND these scratches per se, they just confuse me!

I don't wear long sleeves. Hardly ever.

Sticking your arm in a close dryer will do it.

I put on my jacket first, then roll up my sleeves and then put on my watch lol. when i have to take my jacket off I take my watch off first. The only watches I don't do that with are my submariners and vintage pieces. But with the dd40, any polished Rolex and my AP its a must. YES I know I'm a Psycho as my GF calls me but I like my shit perfect for as long as I can keep it.
