Which Rolex holds it's value the best?

Any thoughts on which Rolex holds it's value the best? I'd think it's probably the SS Daytona or SS Sub? I know you don't buy a watch as an investment...just curious what the group thinks.

The SS Sub. It's a classic and will never go away.

EDIT: I'd agree with you on the Daytona, but only for the short term. I think a lot of the Daytona is pure hype.

I would say any SS sport model will hold it' value over time. The SS daytona is another one that has historically held it's value or appreciated.

In my experience (I'm a Flipper), Subdate can hold the price more good.

Really? I was first introduced to the SS Daytona back in 2000, and it's been at a premium for at least that long. Although in this economy maybe not so much anymore.

the one that is considered most desireable. right now that's a daytona followed by the sub date.

Yes any of the sports vintage Rolex thats about the only Rolex I would call a investment and hold its value. Its doubtful if any modern day Rolex would be a investment well perhaps not for say around 40 odd years. But all the Rolex sports SS models today hold there prices well in the market when compared to other high end watches, same for watches from the Patek line up.

SS Daytona at list. Even now with the Daytona market deflating, the used models are retaining more of their % value to list than any other Rolex.

Like cars, the older classics. If you're wanting something you can get your money out of later I'd opt for a red sub or zenith daytona.

Even in these hard times a SS Daytona is much better investment than most other Rolex's. Is like carrying cash.

The Subs and GMT's hold their value pretty well I think. More so than the Explorers.

depends where on earth. SS Daytona Black Face in HK would surely hold more value than Sub date

SS Daytona seems to be the one that has tested time!

vintage ones keep going up in value, and you cant ever get a discount of RSP

SS Daytona Black is the 1st choice. SS Daytona White is the 2nd. NOT the sub. Sorry.

The sub is great but the SS Daytona is the only current "grail" Rolex and has been for more than a decade. This is not hype. Hype is measured in months (e.g. Milgauss GV, SDDS) not decades (e.g. Daytona).

Sorry sub lovers. SS Daytona is king. It doesn't just hold its value. It appreciates more than any other Rolex model. Just check the big auction houses and compare prices. Even the current model SS Daytona can command a premium unlike ANY other current Rolex model.

A second hand purchased at the right price will most probably appreciate in value over a shorter period of time compared to one purchased at an AD!!
