Ladies DateJust Meteorite

I have the opportunity to purchase a new Ladies DateJust two tone (rose gold and steel) with small diamonds and a meteorite face from our local AD. I think that the idea of having part of the meteorite is cool. Does anyone have any history or opinion on the meteorite part. I won't be visited in the middle of the night by ET who wants part of his planet back will I ?

The "Gibeon" Meteorite, a Class IVA meteorite, was first reported in 1838 by Captain J.E. Alexander. However, the meteorite’s history stretches back in time millions of years. Scientists believe that the meteorite fell to earth in prehistoric times, landing in the Namibian desert near the town of Gibeon. The meteorite shattered and scattered upwards of 26,000 kilograms of interstellar metal along the east side of the Great Fish River in Great Namaqualand, Namibia, Africa.

The meteorite most likely originated as a piece of molten planetary core, which was released when the planet broke apart billions of years ago. The meteorite then made its way slowly through space, traveling millions of years until it landed on earth. As the molten meteorite traveled, it cooled in the vacuum of space. While slowly cooling, the famous Widmanstätten pattern, named for Alois von Beckh Widmanstätten, formed, leaving the long ribbons of iron and nickel composites we see today.
A thing of beauty.
Regards

I've never seen one at any of my ADs. Do you have to special order something like this?

You can identify a meteorite by its Widmanstatten pattern,Rolex uses for there dials meteorite made from the Gibeon meteorite. The Gibeon was a meteorite that fell to the earth in prehistoric times in Namibia. And it was named after the nearest town Gibeon in Namibia now a 232 kg lump was first discovered in 1857 but many lumps between 100 and 500 kg were recovered in the years shortly after 1900 to present time. This meteorite has a very high nickel content, so it's very stable and basically won't rust. And the main cost is not so much the material around $5-$6 a gram for top quality slices. Now the reason meteorite dials are not say on watches like the SS subs its the labour process costs to produce and polish a almost perfect dial that take quite a bit of time for every single unique dial one of a kind produced.
